Peshwar Lancers Redux: Kingdom of Hawaii

The State Funeral For the King was one in which the Political leaders and the people paid their respect for their late King. The Prime Minister and the opposition leader delivered a touching speech regarding the Kings love of the nation and his involvement in the governing of it. King Charles III stated his fond memories of visiting with the King as a child and as a grown up. He was a man who always had time for people.. Two days after the funeral the 7 days of mourning came to an end and preparation began for the ceromony that would officailly mark the Investment of the crown on Prince Quentin.

The new king had also just met his future wife she was Tahitian born Marie DuBois who was a product of a marriage of a Frenchman with a Tahitian . Michael DuBois's family had come to the islands before The fall. They had married within the French community and the Euro-Polynesian community. Marie had left Tahiti to attend the University of Hawaii and then had worked in a business and as an actress. She had met the crown Prince at a dance at the Naval base and things had clicked.. The official engagement would be announced a month after he was made King and the wedding was planned as an event for 1985. It would mark the first marriage between a member of the Royal family and someone from Tahiti . Marie was a Roman Catholic so the Ceromony would take place at the Catholic Cathaderal .

Christopher Thomas arrived back in Honolulu having been reassigned by his employer to Hawaii pending a possible 9 month assignment to Australia followed by 6 months in the Caroline Islands. Christopher's South African girlfriend was with him as arrangements had been made for the wedding to take place in Hawaii. His Mother and the Kamehameha family. The Bride to be was not aware that Christoper's cousin was the Prime Minister and another cousin was the Chairman of the joint chiefs.

Kamehameha Family Residence: George had gathered the family at the Home of his Cousin to make an announcement in 1987, He told the family that he would not be running for re-election to the house in 1988. He would be retiring from Political office and planned to travel with his Irish born wife. Earlier he had to recommend a replacement as National Security advisor as the woman who had held that position had left and had been elected as Mayor of her home town.. He let the family in on a secret they had convinced her to run for a seat in the house in 1988 and he was hopeful that she would win. Cousin Christopher Thomas had spoken to him about running fro the seat held by the Kamehameha Family for years. He had completed an assignment for his employer and wanted to try something different. This would mean that he would be in Hawaii and his mother and father liked the idea, as did his new wife.

John McCarthy was named as the new National Security Advisor by the King. He was a Graduate of the Royal Hawaiian College with a BA degree in Political Science. He had a Master of Arts degree in International Relations and a PHD in Military Affairs from the University of Hawaii. He had served 2 years in the Royal Hawaiian Army. He had been one of the deputy National Security Advisors and had become the Acting one when his boss had left to become a mayor.. He was a professional but got along with the King and with the Prime Minister. In 1988 he would brief both the leader of the National Conservative Party in the House and the liberal Democrat leader.. In 1988 he was informed by the Prime Minister that whoever was elected in 1988 leading the majority in the House would be the new Prime Minister. For the first time in the last 28 years there would be no one named Kamehameha running for office.

1988 the election of 1988 saw the National Conservatives win 150 seats, Liberal Democrats 150 seats and the Social Democrats 20. John D Waihee leader of the Liberal Democrats reached an agreement with the Social Democrats which gave the alliance 170 seats. The new Prime Minister presented himself to the King and asked for the authority to form a government. The King granted permission and there were a series of new people selected to head up the cabinet. Prime Minister Waihee would not change the head of the Royal Hawaiian Intelligence Agency and Admiral Kamehameha would continue as the head of the joint Chiefs of Staff. The Social Democrats insisted that spending on Space be reduced from 4.8billion dollars to 3 billion dollars.

Prime Minister Waihee was determined to make some changes. The Social Democrats had also wanted to reduce military spending but the Prime Minister was resisting their pressure. He knew that if he did that in view of the threat in the world his party could easily lose power

The Prime Minister in his address to the House outlined a budget that was reduced from the previous one. The Royal Hawaiian Navy would see the beginning of work on the first Nuclear powered attack submarine but at this time there would be no advanced funding in the budget for a second Submarine. The New King Class aircraft carrier would receive funding for the beginning of construction. Hawaii would be reducing its funding of space exploration in favor of funding some domestic programs. In next years budget the spending on the Lunar project and the Mars Mission etc would drop from 3 billion to 2.88 billion

The National Conservative members of the House were meeting to get there assignments to the various Committees of the house nearly 1/3 of the members serving were newly elected. Some had never served in the house. Christopher Thomas had some ideas as to what went on as his cousin had been the last Prime Minister. His mother had seen her father hold the office hen she was a young girl and she remembered when young Charles B had followed in the family tradition. Now she was an old lady married to an Admiral, who had served his country in a variety of ways. In fact it was the woman that had taken over his dad's job that he now caught a glimpse . of. He recaled that she had left as National Security Advisor to run for Mayor. and then his father had talked her into running for a seat in the house. Linda had won both jobs with a good majority.
He caught up and he talked with her. She was going to be on the National Security Committee and to his astonishment so was he.The both had two other committee assignments and he invited he for dinner with his new wife. He might not have realized it but he was looking at a future Prime Minister

Hawaii's new Secretary of State flew to India to meet with the British Prime Minister. From there she was expected to fly to Austria, Germany and make a stop in Ireland. Former Prime Minister George W Kamehameha was staying in Ireland visiting his wife's relatives and His brother in law retired General Wilcox.

Secretary of State Lingle was able to reassure Hawaii's allies and to also set up close relationships with those countries seeking Hawaii's help. Basicly she was seeking them to encourage the country's to help themselves move forward. Hawaii in partnership with the United States was attempting to help Korea modernize it military and to improve trade with them. Boeing was selling Korea airaplanes for its new national carrier. Hawaiian Airline industry had already started to train the people that would be needed to fly and maintain the air craft. Hawaii and the US had trained Koreans in the operation and maintenance of the M-48 A3 that had been sold to Korea. It was estimated to be a long term project.

Exports to Korea were considerable and Korean industry was importing Machine tools to allow it to produce more items from consumption in Korea. The Koreans were now working on a new Main Battle Tank based on the M-48 tank.

Hawaii's Secretary of State was proving to be an excellent choice by the Prime Minister. It was not the first time that the opposition party saw one of its members selected as Secretary of State or Ambassador. However, Prime Minister John D Waitee had no idea that he had selected someone who was so capable. The Secretary of State arrived back in Hawaii and was present to vote on a number of bills. She as a member of the legislative body opposed any father cuts to the Space budget. The Bill was defeated with 255 votes against, 60 in favor and 5 absent.
