Theodore Roosevelt

Let's break the Monopolys in the United States and put some real trust busting laws into effect no company should be able to control more than 40% of any industry

Are we talking about the same guy who helped create a detente with U.S. steel who then created an absolute monopoly over the steel market?

"There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism.
"

"The one absolute certain way to bring this nation to ruin ... would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities."

"
Freedom is not a gift which can be enjoyed save by those shown themselves worthy of it."

While some of Teddy Roosevelt's views were undoubtedly racist or at least "White Man's Burden" type of comments I don't see anything objectionable to any of those quotes (and indeed I heartily endorse them). Roosevelt wanted all people in America to be really Americans and not bring their Old World hatreds and rivalries across the ocean while the last quote is basically "Freedom isn't free".

So vote for Theodore Roosevelt! Reform capitalism but don't throw out the baby with the bathwater! For a foreign policy of strength!

Look, we agree that Teddy did some good stuff. However...

He was a racist. He killed a lot of Filipinos in the Philippine War.

He wasn't really a progressive. He saw U.S. Steel as a "good trust" and let it run a monopoly, uncontrolled. Don't this seem hypocritical?

And ultimately, he will not pass the reforms needed, like NHS, that would greatly benefit the American people.

Either faux-Progressivism with Roosevelt, or Socialist justice with Debs.

US Steel is evil. I know what they did in my home town, shutting down the mill and getting the Tories after them for improper business practice. THE TORIES!!!

But Debs is a radical. Socialism has some good aspects, but a total socialist system will fail. Besides, Congress would never work with Debs. :)

"If an American is to amount to anything he must rely upon himself, and not upon the State; he must take pride in his own work, instead of sitting idle to envy the luck of others. He must face life with resolute courage, win victory if he can, and accept defeat if he must, without seeking to place on his fellow man a responsibility which is not theirs."

Do you want a idiot who thinks workers can live on themselves, one who thinks cripplingly low wages are fine and that socialism is evil, and also is a racist.

Then vote for the Genocider of the Moros, Theodore Roosevelt!

I see nothing but awesome and true words in that quote. If I could vote for TR twice i'd do so now just because of that quote.
