And North America

North America 2.PNG

Your A-typical Britain enters the war on the side of the confederates after the Trent Affair (Albert dies earlier). However, rather than really focusing on the Confederates it focuses more on the effects on Britain in the world.

Tensions in N. North America keep Britain out of WW1 (known ITL as the Great War or the Euro War but also push closer unity between Britain and its colonies, later on its dominions. Germany wins ww1 but Britain starts to forge an English speaking Alliance between Itself and a considerably less isolationist USA and CSA. A second war erupts in 1951 between the West and a facist Russia who try to overun Europe. The war causes the destabalisation of the European empires and the loss of European power. Britains empire is no exception and by the 1990's all of Britains major overseas colonies (Asia and Africa) a independant. However, following the Euarsian War Britain and its Major English speaking colonies united in an Act of Union as a confederal state spaning the globe.

Working title is "Global Brittania" and thats the gist of it. You can probably work out or guess most of the rest. I wanted to create a world where Britain transitioned from a global empire into a global nation, much like the "Rule Britannia" TL only I felt while it was brilliant, one of the best it was to Brit-wank and utopian. I wanted Britain to be broken. A cross between Rule Britannia and the modern world I suppose.

In order to usher in this new Map Thread, let's reflect for a minute. This thread is not an IM service, to spam as you wish. Also, let's try to get some quality back in this tradition.

Anywho, new map, never before seen (except by the Strangemapsguy, and myself).

The map basically boils down to this: when the US gets word of the Zimmerman Telegram, public sentiment against Mexico and Germany are high. However, two things happen. One is that Germany holds off their unrestricted submarine warfare for another few months, and the second is that there is a major border raid conducted by Pancho Villa, an infamous Mexican revolutionary.

Papers gobble this up. Several more such events take place, and finally, the public is clamoring for war against Mexico. Thus, by April, the United States invades Mexico. It is obvious from the start that the Mexicans are fighting a hopeless war; even though they have German funds, there is no where else in the Western hemisphere where they can acquire weapons. By the end of the year, the US has captured Mexico City, although resistance carries on for quite some time.

At the end of the war in 1918, Mexico is a failed state. The American invasion has brought economic collapse to an economically starved nation. Rival factions fight over who controls what, while the American people have to decide what to do with this mess on their hands.

Although the US had intended to leave the US whole (minus a few northern territories), this complete collapse brings about a different outcome. The territories of Baja California (Baja California and Baja California Sur), Sonora and Chihuahua are given a plebiscite over whether to gain independence, or join the US. Although later some would question the legitimate of the election, these three territories overwhelmingly choose to join the US.

Meanwhile, in central Mexico, the formerly small Socialist Workers Party is starting to take hold. With a mixture of limited American control and encouragement from the newly Bolshevik Russia, the People's Republic of Mexico is founded. The US is completely thrown off and instantly retaliates, but fighting is slow and the casualties are high. Although the US never fully recognizes the PRM, they set up the puppet Republics of the Rio Grande and Aztlan (although the latter is largely neutral). Finally, the distant Yucatan is left to their own devices, and declares their own free state.

A city. Blue and white towers, monotonous grey streets. People wander the streets, dazed and emotionless, going about the daily grind under their new administration.

Suddenly the city's tannoy system emits a short fanfare, and all television screens switch to the mad, blue face of the thing that this city's inhabitants fear most.

"Hoobledoop, peeps! This is High Emperor Hubba Hubba of Hoobland! With the conquest of the last hold out of Peep resistance here on the Peep Planet, the ultimate restructuring of your culture and civilisation can finally begin! Isn't that just hoobacious? Remember though, a dissenting Peep is a bad Peep, be sure to work with your local Hoob Dominace Enforcement Centre to enjoy a long and hoobacious life. Hooble-toodle-doo!"

Everyone quickly returns the goodbye with the appropriate hand gesture. Not doing so would be a sign of dissent, and the streets were littered with Hoob soldiers, dedicated to their Empire's task. But amongst the humans there were a few that did not believe the lies of Hubba Hubba. These few remembered the days before the Hoobs came, and they still hope that, deep in the mountains, a few, free humans still may live.

Was working on a map back in September, but got sidetracked. When I went to work on it again I forgot the POD. So, I decided to still use it, but try something different.

So I give you;

Beautiful map, Highlander!! My only question is: why wouldn't the CSA incorporate the territory that you have labelled as "North Virginia" into Virginia proper?

Also, what do the results in Cahokia and Gibson mean? Are they voting for statehood in the US or the CS?

Very nice and text-booky.

Although the US had intended to leave the US whole (minus a few northern territories),

Hmmm. Was there much support in the US for breaking up the US?

Sonora and Chihuahua are given a plebiscite over whether to gain independence, or join the US. Although later some would question the legitimate of the election, these three territories overwhelmingly choose to join the US.

Are they immediately received as states, or are they territories?

Who doesn't love a South American balkanization? It's so nicer than the northern one and its ugly squared borders...

edit: bah, sorry, the map did not upload before.
