An usual POD is making him victorious in his expedition against the vandals, after he needs to consolidate his power, IIRC (I made some research some time ago about this interesting character in the aim to make some TL, unfortunately I have not too much time to could begin a TL -and yes some laziness-

Wit these two powerful men allied or friend with him and the prestige of the victory over the vandals he could stabilise the roman situation (Majorian proved also to be an able emperor in administrative and military questions), it is possible that Ricimer tries some manouver against Majorian to continue being the power behind the emperors but if Majorian plays well his cards and with the help of Aegidius and Marcellinus could defeat Ricimer (could be Ricimer is helped by the burgundians but with the power of the roman armies of Galia and Dalmatia I think a victory over Ricimer and the burgundians is highly probable).
