Very nice effects, but I'm not so keen on the actual flag design.

I know black on blue/red isn't terribly vexillogically astute, but to my mind it works pretty well as a combination in this case. Especially since the white in the French flag originally stood for Bourbon monarchists, so its replacement with black makes a certain amount of sense (think of the Blackshirts in OTL, the parallel choice of that colour is fairly likely to my mind).

Well it looks vaguely swastika-ish, is that too obvious?

Reminds me of the fairly subtle swastika Finland still uses in its presidential flag (which obviously predates the Nazi use):

It's not exactly obvious. What you reference is the Fylfot, which is basically a sun circle and represents the cycle of life. Not to mention that the swastika is essentially universal to all ancient cultures and what's in my flag is specifically of Norse origin.

I like it, both the design and the furling effect. What programme did you or your friend use to do that, incidentally?

I'm glad people like it :D. I'll be sure to pass on your praise to him, it'll be a real confidence boost.

I think GIMP, but I'm not too sure. He's really into his graphic design, if you couldn't tell. I designed the flag and he made it. I chose black for the exact reason you said; I imagined it paralleled with the fascist blackshirts, and I chose the fleur-de-lis to symbolise the imperialism/expansionism of the regime (if I am right in my symbolism, the fleur is a symbol of empire, is it not?).

You know, I might try and dig up the story itself and post it in the writer's forum. I wonder where I put it.

Here's a flag for a fascist France I had my friend make me for a short story competition I did. It's similar to Glen's French flag just up the page, but I assure you it was designed a long time ago.

Disturbing.
For some reason I see it flying over the fin of a submarine in stormy seas.

Well done.

Hehe thanks Cook :D. I can picture that too. After I wrote the short story, I imagined it as a movie, and that was a prominent image (as well as it flying over the Eiffel Tower as the camera zoomed in).

Can someone perhaps make me a flag like such but with the Bulgarian letters for "Only Unity Saves the Bulgarians?" Does anyone know what this is in Bulgarian?
Thanks.:)

According to Google it's "Само Единство Записва Българи" which unfortunately doesn't really work, but I've had a go anyway. Maybe it might be a bit better if the letters were made more curved (if that makes sense!)?

From the Dominion of Southern America timeline:

A flag of France after the restored Bourbon monarchy when Louis Napoleon I ascended the throne following the death of his adopted father Napoleon Boneparte and the Congress of Vienna in 1815.

Dude, that is frighteningly similar to my Bourbon Restoration flag, with only the Royalist white replaced by Fascist black.....

Well, swastikas are traditionally sun symbols IIRC.

The fact that it is in a flag with a Scandanavian style cross argues for somewhere Nordic or nordic influenced. The colors though make me think of Cornwall....

It's not a swastika. Swastikas are fairly universal to all ancient cultures,

Yes, they are. As a shape, it's a swastika shape, though an unusual presentation. Of course, that really hasn't narrowed it down.

what is in that flag is specifically a Norse runic symbol.

It certainly looks like it could be a rune symbol, but I don't know that I've ever seen that particular one before, and I've seen a fair amount of runes.

So the flag is definitely Nordic in influence....so when are you going to tell us its full meaning and origin?

The flag represents Empirisk i den Tvilling Bekranse i Karita (Empire of the Twin Thrones of Karita), which is my NationStates nation. The rune itself is, from what I understand, called a Wolf's Cross and means unchangeable fate; it's a sort of semi-arrogant nod to the inevitability of the formation of the Empire and its continuation. The black field represents the equally dark days of the War of Unification, where entire armies were routinely thrown into desperate assault/defense scenarios that only became bloodier with time as the impetus of war advanced technology and city-states turned into feudal unions that fought for supremacy; the populations of the twelve participating city-states were reduced by nearly half in the course of the war. The blue, gold, and cream are simply the colors of the Imperial family.

Flag for the Royal Post of the Kingdom of Pskov, a heavily Nordic-influenced Russian kingdom from a Shared Worlds game, c. 1730. Mostly I wanted to try out the fringe I designed. I like the effect, but it's ugly at the points. Probably will look better on a rectangular flag.

So, now that healthcare has passed in America it's just a matter of time before the whole country turns into a communazi fascist dictatorship. Clearly this new America needs a new flag. Anyone up for the challenge?

And also, just for fun, a flag for a hypothetical Tea Party rebel state that has broken away from the above dictatorship USA would be nice, if anyone is feeling like it.

I would do it myself, but my good computer is still broke so I don't have the capacity right now.
