First names in AH

It's a crazy idea maybe... but why not?

Which new first names can you see emerge in the future?

There's now Madchen for girls, which is the German word for girl. Maybe we can extend this to other languages? Fille? Menina?

And which first names do you have in your AHs?

Some crazy ideas from OTL:
Sometimes parents use geographical names (Cortina) or last names (Washington, Franklin).

In Germany, there were at some time kids called Blücherine or Gneisenauette; the Nazis, however, forbad names like Hitlerine, Hitlerike, Goebbelen and Fricklinde. [Also better for the kids. The Adolfs out there have it difficult enough.]

In Soviet Russia kids got names like Lenina, Ninel [Lenin backwards], Wladlen, Wilior [Wladimir Iljitsch Lenin, Initiator of the October Revolution] or Melsor (Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, October Revolution - later he wanted to change his name into Melor).

And there are of course the Puritans with names like "If-God-had-not-absolved-me-then-I-would-be-damned" (short: Damned).

Other ideas?

In America, I think there was (is?) a large trend towards Celtic names. Perhaps next we could see more names of a more Hispanic\Latin origin?

Do you really know somebody named Mädchen?
poor girl!

I heard that Stalinka was quiete famous in the Soviet Union.

In Germany parents have benn getting crazier with naming children for years.
But fortionatly it is not allowed to name a son Adolph any more.

Paganism (and it's many variations) seems to be making a comeback--maybe stuff sounding vaguely 'paganish' will be on the upswing.

An Armenian TL would be great for that... nearly all of the popular ones are either pagan gods or saints who are actually superficially christianized pagan gods.

Then again, the denizens of the former Armenian SSR had plenty of uplifting Socialist names as well... things like "Banner of Lenin" etc. etc.

How about something with a few y's in it? Myckynzye?

Well, I can't recall the last time I met a Ham, Shem or Japheth . . .

Unless I'm much mistaken, there's quite a community of people out there who pick names "because they like the sound" . . . cursing their children till death.

Why does he keep picking on Germany?:confused::confused:

They banned certain names in Germany, some parents were naming their kids Shitbag and stuff like that..... poor kids :(

No, I didn't mean the common ones, I meant the "stereotypical Arkansas natives."

It was just a joke, because the only person from Arkansas I ever heard of is Bill Clinton.
I guess it wasn't funny.
I am sorry.
Would you forgive me?
Please!!!

@Chingo: Who's picking on Germany? I didn't notice anyone.

And I don't think it's a bad idea that the state doesn't allow certain stupid names, although I can't remember anyone trying to name a kid shitbag. I know the cases of "Störenfried" and "Bierstübl" and "Pepsi-Cola" and "Möwe" and "Pumuckl", but shitbag... noone is that crazy, I hope.

Beyonce and Brooklyn are popular amongst teenage mothers in my local shopping centre.

How about Hrothgar? Ethelred? I've always though Boudicca was nice.

Well, there some girls named Elle out there; from a French-speaker's perspective, that's a strange name indeed.
I'm aware of 17th-century Puritan names like Kill Sin and Flee Fornication, and I dearly hope they won't make a comeback anytime soon.

"And your name is?"
"Flee Fornication Anderson, nice to meet you!"
