Not actually a map (as I said to Nugax above, the voting system makes it rather tedious to represent) but I thought I would post it here anyway.

The fall of the Whig Party in national politics over the course of 20 years.
In 1848, the Whigs had recovered from their loss to the expansionist Democrats in the previous election and managed a win over incumbent James Buchanan.
Zachary Taylor became the first President to die in office in 1850 and Abbott Lawrence entered the White House and upset the Whig's wagon and the entire political scene by taking a stance on the expansion of slavery. Lawrence attracted many northerners to the Whig Party in the 1852 election, but was eventually overcome in 1856 by the masses of Americans fearful that he had gone too far and threatened to tear the nation apart.
The Whigs' miscalculation in the former Supreme Court Justice John McLean and a return to a neutral tone on slavery more than cost them the election in 1860, in which the party came in fourth in a five-way race.
The Civil War further boosted the Republican ranks and once proud Whigs now turned to the Republican Party in droves. The Whigs held their last formal convention in 1868, when their candidate garnered no electoral votes.

A few notes:
1) While Kentucky formally seceded, enough of the State's politicians remained on the Union side and the state was recaptured early enough in the war that it participated in the 1864 elections, despite officially being part of the Confederacy.
2) Robert E. Lee took the position of Commanding General in 1861, a position he held for the entirety of the war. He remains one of the most admired Americans and American Generals to this day.

Didn't know about this thread, so at the risk of spamming I'll post this here as well, from a Vicky II game.

I've managed to avoid the civil war so far (generally happens in the early 1850s or late 1840s in the game), here is the election of 1860. Interestingly, the Republican-Democrat devide is almost entirely along the lines of who was in support of the recent war with the UK, started by them yet again. Democrats are for, Republicans are against, it's kinda hijacked the slavery debate.

The swing states were Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, North Dakota, Minnisota, and Wisconsin. In fact, Pennsylvania was within 2% of switching, and would have won the election for the Democrats. The popular vote was 57% to 40% with thrid parties getting the other 3%. Also note that besides Texas (and only some at that), I have not taken any land from Mexico, though the map has not been changed to reflect this.

1. How do you get EV maps from Vicky II?
2. Why are there GOP states in the South?

Made a literal map of Candian parliment off of a map posted earlier. After a great year for Conservatives and Bloc Quebecois this is the seating arrangements in parliment.

Conservative
Bloc Quebecois

1. I'm getting the population values and doing some number crunching. Manually, but for the 1870s I'm gonna make an excel sheet I think.

2. I explained that in the post. Not the best answer, but I went in and looked at the stats, and they line up with the pro/anti war camps against the UK. The slavery debate was very subdued in this round.

If it's not an alternate history map then it has nothing to do with reality. MDF and SZDSZ are dead, MSZMP ceased to exist since the fall of communism (what you're trying to reference is the MSZP, which was formed from MSZMP), and KDNP is not really a party, they don't even have their own voters. Oh, and you totally forgot LMP, the new green party. At least some of Budapest's districts, the FIDESZ's overwhelming majority and the JOBBIK's position in Northeast Hungary is pretty much what's going on.
EDIT: I forgot there'll be a new voting system since the number of MP's are going to be cut to 200+13 from 386, and that system isn't completed yet.

Why don't you try doing an election map for one of your many alternate Americas? The one you did of the Jeffersonian state divisions would be interesting, for instance.

Indeed. Shouldn't be too much of an edit, and would be a lot more interesting then the standard state division maps, which we have quite a many of.
