Chief Justice Robert Byrd?

    As many may have heard, Robert Byrd, the long-serving Senator from West Virginia, passed away. Richard Nixon reportedly briefly considered him for a Supreme Court position. My question: WI Byrd had accepted? How would he have faired on the Supreme Court from the Seventies onward?

    Based on his OTL beliefs, he'd probably be a moderate, if not mildly left-leaning judge.

    Did he have any judging experience?

    No. He never practiced law, let alone become a judge. Many of us have seen the famous picture of JFK handing Byrd his JD from American U in '63. Insufficient experience.
