  1. WI: The League of Nations was structured like the United Nations & ICC?

So the same as in OTL? Let's say that in this ATL the permament memebers of the security council consist of UK, France, USA, Japan and Italy . Is it really much worse than the OTL one that initially consisted of UK, France, USA, Soviet Union and ROC? I would argree however that, in this...
  2. WI: The League of Nations was structured like the United Nations & ICC?

It's not like they respected them much more in the '40s. Or that most of the UN member states in 2024 do.
  3. Graphic Thread

They can but I was asking if that was the intention of the author.
  4. Graphic Thread

Are they all supposed to be this attractive? Because otherwise you will need to work on the prompts because most AI image generators tend towards making the subject attractive.
  5. Graphic Thread

This took me way too much time and effort... Cultural Revolution Alternate History Compass EDIT: Questions are welcome.
  6. Averting or Postponing the Chinese Revolution of 1911 with post-1901 PoD

Let's say that Guangxu menages to defeat Yuan and the court conservatives by 1909. Would he be able to negotiate with revolutionary leaders such as Sun Yat Sen? Is there any chance for a compromise between Constitutionalists and Tongmenghui this late?
  7. Averting or Postponing the Chinese Revolution of 1911 with post-1901 PoD

Are there any sources on his opinions in 1900s? Also, let's say that he menages to find allies both among Constitutionalist and among some governors and court officials would he be potentially able to defeat opposition consisting of the conservative officials and Yuan Shikai? Were there any...
  8. Averting or Postponing the Chinese Revolution of 1911 with post-1901 PoD

So returning to this discussion: If Guangxu Emperor survived the assassination attempt in 1908 would he be able to use this as a pretext for purging the more conservative forces within Qing government? Would he still require Yuan's support for that?
  9. Averting or Postponing the Chinese Revolution of 1911 with post-1901 PoD

Alright, so let's discuss a scenario in which Yuan Shikai orchestrates a palace coup some time in mid to late 1900s, removes the more obstructionist Manchu ministers and forms a government with parity between Manchu and Han. 1) Why would he do it? I won't claim I know a whole lot about the man...
  10. Averting or Postponing the Chinese Revolution of 1911 with post-1901 PoD

No country exists in vacuum and different political and economic situation in China will ultimately influence the situation in other countries even if indirectly.
  11. Averting or Postponing the Chinese Revolution of 1911 with post-1901 PoD

Very comprehensive answer but you assume to much pararelism with OTL history. I don't think that with a PoD in 1900s even creation of the Soviet Union is certain let alone WW2 or the Cold War. Regarding Qing's involvement in the Great War I do wonder if it being more stable than OTL 1910s China...
  12. Averting or Postponing the Chinese Revolution of 1911 with post-1901 PoD

How plausible would it be to either completely avert or at least significantly postpone (by no less than 10 years) the Chinese Revolution of 1911 and the fall of Qing dynasty if the point of divergence can be no later than the end of the Boxer Rebellion? Would this require the New Policies to...
  13. Alternate Ideologies

Unfortunately this ideology already exists in OTL and it's called Theonomy (and/or Dominionism in context of American Protestantism).
  14. What if prohibition continued to the present day?

Europe is not a cultural monolith and Norway, Sweden and Finland did have their own periods of either full or at least partial prohibition. Even today the sell of alcohol is highly controlled in these countries by European standards. But in these countries similarly to USA this was also born...
  15. What if prohibition continued to the present day?

An interesting question is if continuous prohibition of alcohol would stop or at least slow the spread of other illegal intoxicants in USA. Also, although I doubt very plausible of such scenario (considering the attitudes from which the prohibition movement arose) it would be interesting to...
  16. AHC: Majority/Plurality Jewish US State

Here is the challenge: With PoD not later than 1776 have an American state in which either majority or at least plurality of population is Jewish. Also, what would be possible consequences of such state existing?
  17. Pagan Europe - Could churches become popular even without Christianity?

The amount of historical determinism in this thread is outstanding. However, regarding OP's question of if the same architectural styles of sacral buildings would develope in an ATL Europe w/o Christianity then I would say that's highly unlikely since like all art they emerged from a specific...
  18. Which country could have a cultural invasion similar to South Korea or Japan

Well for anyone who is into metal music Norway, Sweden and Finland are such nations.
  19. Which non-European nation had the potential to industrialize first?

The problem is that in both China and India there was no economic incentive for industrialisation because labor was extremely cheep due to the large population. Why build a machine that does the work of 100 men if you can get 200 men to do the work for much cheaper. I think that the Middle...
  20. AHC: Buddhist teaching, belief, and monasticism spread to southwestern Asia and the Mediterranean world in Ancient or Classical Age

I actually wrote a little write-up on this subject (particularly ATL Roman Buddhism) for a game in the Shared Worlds forum. I won't claim that it's any good but here it is if people want to check it out:
