Britain goes 7.92x57mm SLEM post WW2. What are the NATO implications?

It might be developed... But it would never get beyond the prototype stage. I was merely commenting on the design's suitability for use with the 8mm mauser cartridge.

Britain goes 7.92x57mm SLEM post WW2. What are the NATO implications?

The FAL was already stretched to its design limits with the 7.62x51; already having up-sized from the the 7.92x33 Kurz, and later the .280. I'm not sure it could take going all the way up to the 8mm Mauser without some complete over-haulage.

Military Aircraft that should have entered service

So the McDonnell Douglas/General Dynamics A-12 Avenger II... Whether it should have entered service or not... Meh. But I just learned that the instructor for a class I'm taking was the primary terminating contract officer (for the govt) for that program!

Stable sucession system for the Roman Empire(the whole and unified empire)

However, supposedly, Claudius was only declared emperor after he was discovered by the Praetorians, hiding behind a palace curtain. The assassins were still on the loose, and had already dispatched Caligula's wife and daughter. And supposedly, the only thing that saved Claudius, was his being...

Sino Indian war with no partition?

Oh I don't know that full-on annexation by India would be required for them to step in to defend an independent Tibet. After all, they have had no problems with Nepal, Bhutan and Sikkim prior to Tibet falling to the Chinese; and the first two could hardly be called Indian puppets; even though...

    AHC: Save an extinct species.

And... you seem to be quite confused as regarding the usage of "sarcasm", and "tongue-in-cheek" ;) :p It's not your fault; I'm an acquired flavor.

(Medieval Stasis) Stretching Iron-to-Medieval Age Tech for... 5000 years?

The mechanism to prevent it's adoption would probably have to be more complicated, granted. I was merely thinking of something that would seriously impede the development of European science in its infancy; and attacking the very foundation of mathematics through the continued use of Roman...

    Good Abandoned TL's

That's what happened to one of my favorites; The Invasion of Kenya. But McCaulay had to go and get himself banned... :idontcare:

(Medieval Stasis) Stretching Iron-to-Medieval Age Tech for... 5000 years?

How much would preventing the European adoption of Arabic Numerals keep things down? The Church maintaining an iron grip on ensuring Roman Numerals remain in use would have huge impacts on the development of mathematics. And with it... accounting, science, industry... An inability to perform...

Automotive WI: Luxury French brands don't disappear

I wonder if there were any American brands, post-war, who would have been interested in buying... A lot of service men had been stationed in France during, and after, WWII, and I'm sure that more than a few of them would have noticed French cars. Maybe we could see some of the French brands...

I resent the insinuation that I have gone extinct... Interbreeding between archaic and modern humans

    AHC: Save an extinct species.

In a short while, we can add the Northern White Rhino to the list... Making the challenge of saving them relatively easily to come up with. Too bad none of the inevitable ideas were implemented during the last few decades. :-/

WI: Taliban allows US to strategically bomb bin Laden immediately post 9/11

As it says on the tin. OTL, we had the US and Kabul going back and forth regarding handing over Osama... and we know what happened. His eventual escape from Tora Bora... and almost 20 years of insanity. Most likely the Taliban isn't going to just hand over Osama; mostly for political...

    PC: Successfully Operation Savannah

Oh, it was. I don't believe in the long-term viability of the apartheid government there. It would be dragged out with heavier SA involvement, but still would be going down in the end. Hence I even brought up a possible Muzorewa's govt.

    PC: Successfully Operation Savannah

Which they may very well be emboldened to do; if they get away with Savannah (and the war in general) without western sanctions.

    PC: Successfully Operation Savannah

Precisely. That's why I'm thinking that if South Africa wasn't in nearly so bad an economic situation itself (OK, it wasn't horrible, but the sanctions didn't help it), and if the anti-Apartheid pressure wasn't so great (stemming from the US pulling support when Operation Savanna went public)...

    PC: Successfully Operation Savannah

It's pretty well recognized that Ian's government didn't militarily loose the war; it was the sanctions and economic untenability of the war that did them in. Sorry; that was a tongue-in-cheek comment to the idea that the FNLA would have certainly had black leadership, but would have been...

    PC: Successfully Operation Savannah

Well, if they're able to successfully take Luanda, AND maintain the covert nature of the whole thing, the whole region would be very different. It was the discovering of South African involvement in Angola that really put the final nail in the coffin of sanctions against South Africa. So, if...
