  1. 8mm to the Left: If Hitler Died in 1923

    Standard Operating Procedure :)
  2. What if Florida had been organized into two territorial governments instead of just one upon its annexation?

Not sure, you've obviously put some time and effort into this but I don't know enough about the topic to really contribute meaningfully. Sorry
  3. The eagle's left head

Such a simple statement with so much promise behind it. :D
  4. The eagle's left head

In this timeline, I think he's going to be extremely highly regarded among historians (not least because he never made any moves to seize the throne for himself despite the enormous level of power and influence that he was given). The fact that his final battle had such a one-sided outcome is...
  5. The eagle's left head

    So it begins...
  6. The eagle's left head

I believe the bolded part is supposed to be Kantakouzenos? Otherwise, nice update. :)
  7. 8mm to the Left: If Hitler Died in 1923

    Ah, that makes sense.
  8. 8mm to the Left: If Hitler Died in 1923

There seems to be some confusion on who is signing to whom. The way it is currently written I got the impression that Maurras could hear the other people but not speak himself. Wasn't he deaf instead?
  9. 'Blank slates': Scarcely attested persons or nations you think deserve a timeline

Always find Cahokia and the Mississippian civilization interesting. It could be argued that they are mentioned in "The Red Road" of the Delaware nation but even if that is true, it's only a passing mention.
  10. Best PoD(s) for an Athenian/Corinthian/Spartan/Theban Democracy/Republic Turned Empire?

Unfortunately, that's getting into the weeds beyond what I actually know from my surface-level knowledge of the period. I think you'd need someone more specialized in classical Greece (like maybe @Hecatee ) to give you some specific PoD for the Delian League.
  11. Best PoD(s) for an Athenian/Corinthian/Spartan/Theban Democracy/Republic Turned Empire?

I tend to agree that Athens had the best chance and Sparta really did as best as it could have in OTL. I'm unsure if perhaps Thebes or Corinth had opportunities that could have been used as a springboard or not. Perhaps Thebes after Leuctra? Unsure.
  12. Discussion: The Norman Empire

Definitely unwieldy. The Angevin Empire alone was so unstable that the court was almost always on the move. I don't think Henry II spent more than 2-3 weeks in any one place for his entire reign. It wasn't until John managed to lose most of the continental holdings that the government began to...
  13. WI: Yamamoto Survives Operation Vengeance, Ugaki Does Not

Interesting scenario, sadly I don't know enough of the Japanese political scene to even speculate on what changes might develop.
  14. Why were the Khmer Rouge so violent?

Absolutely, I'm not remotely justifying the VC/PAVN in the least. I was just highlighting what I saw as the differences between them and the KR. Vietnam was a civil war and (like most civil wars) there were remarkably few "good guys" to be found at any level. I think that Vietnam is only...
  15. Why were the Khmer Rouge so violent?

I'm not going to claim any particular knowledge of the situation but my layman's assessment would be that it's a difference between committed Ideologues and Pragmatists. The Khmer Rouge were communist zealots first and soldiers second (not to mention they attracted a lot of criminals who viewed...
  16. ACW WI: Sherman supports the Tennessee Bridge Burners, Nov. 1861

It's certainly an interesting idea to explore. Seems like there's always at least one more side theater of the ACW that I was previously unaware of. One major positive for the plan is having Thomas in command. The guy's reputation for dependability was well-earned after all. :)
  17. Were Pirates Really So Much of a Threat That Even a Military Genius Like Julius Caesar Had to Be Sent To Fight Them?

Excellent point, a lot of these "pirates" were actually unofficially sponsored by states that were nominally or fully under Roman overlordship. It was a bit of a win-win for all involved (except the traders and the Romans). The pirates got safe harbors and a ready source of recruits. The...
  18. Would there be a mass genocide against Israelis if Israel lost the 1948 War?

Good point, the only reason there even IS a Palestinian people and state today is because their Arab neighbors kept them around as a convenient stick to beat Israel with. Said states outright changed their laws to ensure they couldn't assimilate into other Arab nations (to the point that someone...
  19. Seven Days to the River Rhine: the Third World War - a TL

I think "victory" is going to be a hotly debated word in the context of this war. I think it might be better to ask who loses the least? Even neutral nations are going to be suffering consequences from the sheer quantity of nukes getting thrown around and we still haven't seen a single ICBM...
  20. historical moral narratives: which was the 'good' side, if any, during WW1?

I think it is pretty conclusive that the CP generally conducted the war more brutally against non-combatants but I would also say it's largely a wash on the geo-political front. Aside from Belgium (and arguably Greece and Serbia), every single nation involved entered of their own free will and...
