    Considering Waffen SS Generals like Sepp Deitrich , Paul Hauser and Felixstowe Steiner absolutely hated Himmler , I'd doubt they would support any take over by him .. In fact , the only support he would get would be the post holding him up for his firing squad.

    Yes it was. It was formed as the Armed wing of the NSDAP and was never meant to "replace" the Heer at any stages before or after the war. Even Hitler knew he couldn't just replace the Standing army with his own, that's why he allowed the Waffen SS to form Combat Units .. it was to balance out...
