The US had no other choice, because other nations were leaving Bretton Woods and converting dollars for gold like crazy. It was simply not sustainable for the US anymore to keep the gold standard. So to answer your question, the US would be much worse off.
It would be a horrible mess for everyone involved, especially the Germans. Eventually it will probably lead to many more dead people, an harsher treaty of Versailles, and an even more isolationist US.
I remember reading that Argentina was preparing to go to war with Chile to find some external cause to rally the people behind and let them forget about the internal problems. But due to the Falklands War it never went through. But what if Argentinia did invade Chile instead of the Falklands...
I agree, you can't describe it any other way than a mess. The Schlieffen plan wouldn't suddenly succeed, try describing how exactly of just saying 'it happened'. Although I always like CP powers TLs. Britain would get a white peace and especially not cede anything to the Ottomans. You might want...
Oh apologies.
I'm not really an expert, but couldn't it be possible for Japan to 'just' attack the Dutch East Indies and perhaps Malaya? Not sure if the Americans would go to war for that.
If the Spanish really failed and the French didn't back down for the Triple Alliance that would mean the Dutch would almost certainly intervene, they had no desire for France to be on their borders and preferred a weak Spanish Netherlands there, in addition to Spain and the HRE (and possibly...
What is the best way for a foreign invader to conquer or at least neutralize the Panama Canal? Imagine that Britain and Japan in the 1920s for some reason pulled a Pearl Harbor on the Americans - the American fleet is neutralized - and that they want to take out the Panama Canal. What would be...
Maybe.. maybe if they didn't take it seriously, like in Conker. But that would subsequently mean they probably decide to turn Slippy into that annoying creature of Assault.
Still; why would they ever do that? A fox is really an indefinitely better animal for such a game than a sheep. The...
Napeleon III saw Britain as a natural ally; in the Americas he danced to Britain's tune. Had London recognized the CSA than Napoleon would follow suit. Of course the British were somewhat less receptive to him, they were still in splendid isolation and they didn't care about France too much. The...
Oh, all right. I'm European and never knew it, thanks. :)
I'm not really an expert here but I would eventually see conflicts of interests arise, that's unavoidable if Canada grows like OTL. Maybe an independent Indian nation, used by Britain to counter a more hostile US could work.
