  1. AHC : United States Military Coup in the 80s

A vending machine doesn't get pushed over in one go, you need to get it rocking first. You need years of gradual erosion of institutions and accepted conventions, economic stagnation etc. Then this kind of thing is much more likely.
  2. Outside of helping to close the Atllantic Gap, what can Ireland contribute to WW2?

Nothing at all to do with the thread, but the fit of those helmets in the first picture looks appalling, all kinds of angles and the chinstraps are in all different places. Is that normal for helmets of this period? Very uncomfortable looking.
  3. Alternate Tank Thread

If the fighting isn't very mobile, you might find that towed AT guns have a place. Small silhouette, and cheaper than a Hellcat style vehicle. Towed guns up front and the tanks in reserve to counterattack any breakthroughs.
  4. Challenge: Make the 20th century advancements slow then really fast

I'm a bit confused by what you want, but just so you know in OTL my mum is in her 70s and her family didn't have tv when she was a kid. I don't think manyof her peers did either.
  5. A slightly different RAM tank

A quick google would indicate some were used there.
  6. Fate of Canada in case of Central Powers US?

There seems to be a widespread ignorance of the other Allied casualties at Gallipoli. I was unaware of it myself until a few years ago, perhaps because being Australian the focus here is on the ANZACs. In any case, the ANZACs were far from the majority of the casualties at Gallipoli, have a...
  7. What if Australia had gotten high-speed rail?

I can take the bus Sydney-Canberra for $80 return, travel time is 3-4.5 hours depending on traffic. Goes from city centre to city centre. A lot of people would prefer to take the HSR but will save the $70 I think.
  8. Earliest Plausible Manned Moon Landing

I'd imagine that if Columbus had found a completely barren, useless rocky waste, there would have been very few followers as well. If the moon had anything it was economical to get, people would have gone back. The Americas and the Moon are comparing apples and oranges.
  9. WI: Gandhi survives his assassination attempt?

On his own talk show - "Gabbin' with Gandhi".
  10. Es Geloybte Aretz - a Finished Germanwank

That was a little cruel, finishing on a cliffhanger. Very impressive, I enjoyed that very much. A lot of research must have gone into it
  11. Why didn't Osama Bin-Laden just do this 22 years ago?

Having govt connections and a rich family doesn't mean you run the country. Pissing off the US means lots of problems for the Saudi govt, harder to live the good life if you can't travel or invest overseas. What's in it for them?
  12. If Latin America was rich, will the US still see much Latino immigration?

You could see a lot of emigration from the USA to these other states if they are economically well off. The Republican rallying cry would be "They're stealing our citizens! Soon the US will be empty!".
  13. AHC: Republic of Rose Island survives

I'm going for Silver via the easy option: 2 days before the police were to assume control of the platform, an error in the Soviet early warning radar leads them to believe the US has launched a preemptive nuclear strike, they launch in response. 8 hours later, Rome (as well as many other...
  14. A Blunted Sickle - Thread II

Google is producing nothing - does anyone know what a sniper division is? If it's what it sounds like, that's a lot of ghillie suits to produce.
  15. The Unwanted Clairvoyant. A different French strategy in WW1

Isnt a leather helmet the worst of both worlds? Uncomfortable as well as not offering any protection.
