WI the CSA makes a Capital city from scratch???

WI, After the CSA wins the ACW(dont ask how, its not central to the TL) They select an empty area and build a capital city from scratch, like the US did with DC?
Where would it be?
What would its layout be??
Could the CSA afford to do this?

Well, Washington was built there as a compromise gesture between the already divergent interests of the northern and southern states. Would this also apply with the CSA? Maybe there are divergent interests between east and west (especially if they get New Mexico and the Indian Territory) so the capital ends up somewhere in Tennessee or Arkansas?

The War of Secession would be over and the Confederates defeated before any Capitol Building is finished. At least they won't have to worry about anybody occupying their capital - if its still a hundred acres of undeveloped pasture land.

About if they won

come on,

it would need railroad system and telegraph getups in order to function. maybe the most plausible would be a couple of shotgun houses near a rail track.

we, proud southerns, feel such accommodations are beneath us

What about Dixie City, District of Davis?

Built on the banks of the Mississippi River, surrounded by seven strategic hills, like Rome upon the banks of Tiber of ancient time, commemorating the new capital of this sacred Dixie's land, this land of Freedom and Justice and Perpetual Confederacy, with the name of Dixie itself.

I said city from scratch, New Madrid allready exsisted.
Also, who says that the CSA gets Missouri in this TL?
The usually dont, y'know....

Details...details....

Howsabout in the middlle of that VA area known as the Wilderness, to commemorate the Battles there? Or in the Great Dismal Swamp? that was why they chose to put DC where they did.

Eastern Tennessee, northern Georgia, northern Alabama, or the westernmost Carolinas would do. Maybe a much smaller city that could be re-developed would do, like Rome GA or Gainesville GA?

Why not just call the capital Independence? Freetown? Liberty? Perhaps the District of Jefferson?
