A Standing League of Nations Army

With Turkish soldiers, British NCO's and Australian officers.

(In some ATL's I'm doing something productive right now)

Its obviously still biased to the Imperialists. The army is going to be small, I mean, Turkey?

It's too small to be very effective. Will Britain want to commit that much to it? Why British NCO's and Australian Officers?

There was a saying among the Allied troops at Gallipoli that the ideal army would be made up of Turkish privates, British NCOs and Australian generals.

Well, you need to remove much of wilson's personality...

Which unfortunatly butterflies away the league of Nations.

It had to do with the frustration of the enlisted men with their situation- stuck on the beach because of the incompetence of the British generals and the stubbornness of the Turks. But I confess I do not really understand why they categorized everything in the manner they did.

The most likely LoN force would have been units provided by signatory nations, much like the current UN military missions.

A more interesting idea would have been a foreign legion style force, based on mercenaries paid by a tax/contribution levied on the LoN members . That force would then be equipped with the best (or the cheapest ) weapons available on the world market.

Now that would be interesting; how about American uniforms, British aircraft, German hand weapons and Russian tanks.....

Or Russian uniforms, French aircraft, Japanese hand weapons and Italian tanks......

Well, the Turks fought bravely in Korea under American NCOs, why shouldn't they fight bravely under the British ones?

Well, the Turks have fought bravely under their own NCO's as well. All they need is modern weapons and up to date training and they wouldn't "need" foreign non-coms or generals.

Or if they need foreign generals, I am sure they much prefer German generals like Liman von Sanders. After all, he defeated the British and Australians at Gallipoli .

Sounds like the bigger, better organized and armed LoN version of the Shanghai Volunteer Corps.

IIRC, there was a minority sentiment to having some form of force to enforce League matters.

That's why the U.S. Congress didn't ratify the Treaty of Versailles. Henry
Cabot Lodge, who would later become Richard Nixon's running mate in 1960,
and Ambassador to the Republic of Vietnam, (South Vietnam,) said that the
United States didn't want to be a part of the League of Nations because it
called for countries to contribute troops for self-defense.

It's like Canada. We could have had British government, French cuisine, and American know-how. Instead, we have American government, British cuisine, and French know-how.

Well, no, not really. But the joke doesn't work otherwise.

...Actually, French government, American cuisine, and British know-how works fairly well as well... we just got one of the suck versions, I guess.

Well, me heard that Canadian Maple Syrup is pretty tasty, so I wouldn't think the cuisine bit sucks at all.
