The Kingdom of Egypt & the Sudan

How could we get the Kingdom of Egypt and the Sudan to exist till the present day? What PODs would have to occur for that to happen? I suppose we'd have to get rid of or neutralize the republican forces calling for an end to the monarchy, such as Abdel Nasser and Muhammed Naguib.

How would the lack of an Egyptian revolution affect the Middle East, and worldwide politics as a whole? Would the Muhammed Ali Dynasty (assuming that they'd still be in power) be a strong monarchy, or would they be a teetering government propped up only by, for example, the West?

Make the Arabs defeat Israel in the first war. Then make the Egyptian monarchy more assertive against Britain, nationalizing the Suez Canal for instance. Then make the British react by formally cutting off southern Sudan from the north (they were already administrated differently, with the south tied to Uganda). The north would be pissed and might begin to see a point in uniting with Egypt.

I don't think there's any realistic chance for Egypt to get the south as well after WWII.

Of course, you could always go back to the 19th century and shuffle a few genes to make Ismail Pasha a bit more financially thrifty, so his country didn't become a wholly owned British subsidiary. Then Egypt just has to defeat the Mahdi and bobs your uncle.

Most logically sound. There were plans to merge North/Arab-Sudan with Egypt, and South/Black-Sudan into a greater British East Africa. South Sudan was more tired with Uganda and Nairobi than with either Khartoum or Cairo anyhow. Politically, realistically, and culturally.

And still is. It's cheaper and easier to call/get to Kampala than Khartoum from Juba, despite what the maps may say.

Good to see you back, by the way.
