WI Julius Constantius claims the throne?

In 21 May 337 Constantine I died in Nicomedeia... At the time of his death none of his children were near him... They arrived in Constantinople at 9 September 337 and divided the Empire betwwen them according to Constantine's wish...
However Julius Constantius who was Consul at the time was closer to the dying Emperor and he had the power to claim the throne... In OTL he didnt and end up dead in the family purges of 337...
WI he did? The armies of the East were loyal to him and he could easily beat Constantine's children... How is Julius Constantius ascension affects Roman history?
