Prince Alfonso doesn't die in 1491

Inspired by the Portuguese-Castilla union thread.

I came across this bit of history while doing some minor reading
g on the Spanish Inquisition period, Prince Alfonso of Portugal was born in 1475. When he was young, he was engaged to be married to Isabella of Aragon. The state that was known as Spain didn't want a Portuguese monarch on the throne. So they tried to prevent the marriage diplomatically. When that failed, Alfonso would die in a horse-riding accident. Since Alfonso was a skilled rider and his Castillan valet was never seen again, the valet likely murdered him.

So what if this plot is discovered. Does Alfonso go on to rule the entire Iberian peninsula, or is a more obvious attempt to assassinate him occur, perhaps with some guy bursting in with a knife and trying to kill him that way? I think the latter, since Alfonso was likely marked for death the moment it became obvious the marriage would occur no matter what.

Well, I was going to do the other one, but I decided that your POD was more believable and will couple better with some things I have in plan for the idea. The TL might turn out as a brief outline, but I would think it would be slightly more popular than that, judging by the replies on the original Castile/Portugal thread.

I was saying outlinebecause I figured you would be doing the other TL, but since you've decided to focus on this one, go for it!

The odd thing is that Isabella went on to marry Manuel I of Portugal. Their son, Miguel da Paz, would still have inherited all three thrones. I find it had to buy the idea that the Catholic Monarchs would arrange the murder of Alfonso only to marry Isabella off to the Portuguese king.
