AH challenge- France concedes Indochina by June 1950
That's the challenge - France concedes Indochina diplomatically or is physically beaten by local forces by June 1950. Could it have happened?

Perhaps have an earlier Dien Bien Phu like victory for the Vietminh, or maybe have the French Army commit more atrocities than it did it OTL, that would look very disastrous for France especially in the context of the aftermath of World War 2.

Indeed, if the Americans had chosen to lean on the French, or if the French government had been pushed into conceding by its own left wing (IIRC the Communists diod not actually try to do this ecause they wanted a colonial war, but they might have), this could have spared Vietnam, France and the United States a lot of grief. Unfortunately, I don't think the French would have reacted well to US pressure and by 1950, the Vietminh had already taken on a very Communist cast. Say the US start the process earlier and as a result, a Vietminh faction remain more strongly aigned with the west?
