no Sri Lankan civil war
Hi everyone,
I was wondering: What's the best POD for Sri Lanka to avoid the civil war that has been raging on and off since 1983, and therefore be even more prosperous than it is now (e.g. like Malaysia)? Could it be in 1959, considering that SWRD Bandaranaike (who was prime minister at the time) had begun to meet with Tamil leaders to discuss making a federation in Sri Lanka, when he was assassinated by a radical Sinhalese Buddhist monk. If he's not assassinated then, there would be more of a chance of a federation working then. Do you agree? And, in such a case, would the Sri Lankan economy still have deteriorated through the 1960s and most of the 1970s from other causes? Yosef |
