President Carl Albert

I guess there are two scenarios here, that either he doesn't make his statement that he would resign once a Republican VP was elected by Congress. and therefore assumes the presidency intending to stay there, or that he makes the speech and still becomes president because Nixon resigns before Ford has been approved by Congress.

Are there any major ripples ?

In the second scenario we have to assume that Congress completes the approval of Ford, he becomes Albert's VP then Albert resigns, Ford becomes President and selects his own VP. Would Ford still go for Rockefeller or would he in the spirit of the moment select a Democrat ?

If Albert decides not to make the statement saying he would resign etc, then tries to rule as a Democrat seeing out a Republican's term, how does this affect things from then on ?
