Narvik salient by June 1940
Just influenced by watchin a HIST CHANNEL documentary tonight on the Norwegian resistance during WWII- WI the Allies, perhaps with a much greater degree of preparation and with a better conducted campaign in France, had been able to hold onto Narvik after the British forces and French mtn exp force had subdued Gen Eduard Dietl's German garrison there ? Could Narvik and northern Norway have then remained viably in British hands, and with what wider effects ?

with a better conducted defense of France, of course. Otherwise, probably not. It's strange how the germans at Narvik managed to resist, despide all odds, and even mount a succesfull counter-attack

I don't know if Battlegroup Dietl was ever realy subdued. They were pushed out of Narvik but as pointed out they did mount a counter attack. German infantry were famous for being able to hold on to 'seemingly impossible' situations.
