Halftracks continue in widespread use after WWII
so, how could this be the case ?

Isn't the APC just an evolution of the halftrack, like the tank was an evolution of the armored car?

IIRC pound for pound half tracks cost more than fully tracked vehicles.

Didn't the Israelis continue using half tracks until recently?

yes... the US gave them loads of them. At first, the Israelis used them for transport, like they were made to be, but after they started getting modern APCs, they used the old halftracks to mount various weapons on them... heavy mortars, AA guns, and other oddities. Halftracks were used clear through the Yom Kippur war, but I don't think the Israelis use them anymore...

They were WW2 surplus though. The IDF was using them because they never throw anything away.

yeah, except they didn't go charging into combat... more support type weaponry... mortars to pound the enemy from the back lines, AA to protect supply dumps, etc...

Plus in addition to advantages of both you get disadvantages of both as well.
