Beirut 1983- USMC, French not carbombed

WI the US Marines and French paras in the Multinational Force Beirut during 1983 hadn't been carbombed by the Shi'ite suicide bombers ? But would their respective policy towards Lebanon have needed to have been radically different- ie the US not providing advice and arms to the Christian-dominated Lebanese govt and the USN not bombing Syrian positions while the Marines in the MNF were supposed to be a neutral pkf ? Could a cont'd MNF presence in Beirut after 1984 have made any major difference at all ?
