Challenge: Bourbon American Monarchy
With a POD no earlier than 1763, make it so that a nation ruled by a Bourbon monarch spans from the Atlantic to the Pacific by 1863, and includes at least seven of the original 13 American colonies.
One hundred years to make a Bourbon-ruled "Empire of the Americas"...are YOU up for it? ![]() |

1763? You know that in this year, the French colonies in NA were completely lost to Britain? And besides, at that time all of Louisiana (despite being bigger) had only a seventh(!) of the colonists the 13 colonies had. You need an earlier POD. Way earlier.

Well, he didn't say French Bourbons, now did he?
How 'bout this: Spain never gives Louisiana to France in the early 1800s. When Napoleon's forces invade Spain, the King flees to Louisiana. He proclaims hiself "Emperor of the Americas and King of Flordia". In time, Louisiana becomes the larger economic power in the region under his successors. In the 1820s, they look east as Mexico and South America break ff from the Empire... |

*Wonders if it would be possible for a minor member of the Spanish or French Bourbons to move to Louisiana, divide it up into heriditary possessions, and eventually end up with a dynasty called "The Kentucky Bourbons".*

Pfeh. Make Bolivar unable to conquer Peru, making today's Peru and Bolivia stay in Spanish hands and after problems at home make some Bourbon scion flee to America and proclaim himself Emperor of Peru and voilá!

How about the founding fathers, (get rid of libertarians, stronger federalists) want to found a constitutional monarchy, can´t agree on who should be king, and take a distant cousin of the French king as a some sort of ceremonial head of state.

...unfortunately, there aren't any such Bourbons alive in 1763. Again, you need an earlier POD for such a person to be born in the first place. Bruce |

Maybe earlier and bigger French and Spanish support for the revolutionaries would help. And bigger inner tensions among the founding fathers so that they don't want one of their own as president of the new nation, thus they could agree on a foreign king. |

Well, you have until 1863 to get it done...no one said that the Bourbons had to be in charge of it from the very beginning.

Ummm...well, I mentioned that they would have to control at least seven of Britain's thirteen North American colonies.

Hmm, the USA breaks up during the Articles of confederation period, and in the early 1820s Spain loses MExico to a conservative based revolt, whom negioate to gain a Spainsh Bourbon as their King/Emporer over the Spainsh North American colonies, from California to Puetro Rico, from Chipas to New Mexico.
During the coming area they spark a war with Georgia, and a few of the Southern States over Western Florida. They proceed to gobble up the Georgian West in the treaty that ended that war. |
