Different-WWI: "Spheres" in E. Europe

It's an old idea, but I think it's one worth revisiting.

There still must be some massive war that destroys the old Austro-Hungarian and Russian Empires in the East. Now it's time for a new "Partion of Poland" type senario, where newer powers swoop in fill in vacuum.

I'm thinking that the French would ne most interested in Poland, since there are historical and religious ties between the two states.

Germany, especially a Prussian-led one, will always be interested in expanding to the NE: into the Baltics.

The British want to keep the Russian out of the Black Sea, so taht means getting involved in Ukraine.

Depending on how it goes, Romanian, Turkey, or even the USA might be invloved too.

In the Russian Civil War, the Brits and French planned to make spheres of influence too: Ukraine for France, Caucasus and Central Asia for Britain.

I heard about the British moving into S. Russia and the Caucasus to prop up a "White" (anti-Boleshevik) Russian State and a few independant Caucasian republics, including a Dagestan if I recall correctly. I never heard anything about the French in Ukraine, except they briefly landed a few troops in Odessa. Know anything more about it?

How would France reconsile this with their strong friendship with Poland?
