Couple of Questions

In my Darker World War II timeline, I have Stalin taking over the defenses of Moscow, leaving huge gaping holes in several key positions to defend things he believes is more important, this allows the Nazi's to take the Soviet capital. Stalin is killed trying to flee, and shortly after Leningrad falls, and though the Soviets fight valiantly at Stalingrad, it too falls. This all but knocks the USSR out of the war, but led by the big three, Molotov, Beria, and Zhdanov from the temporary capital of Kuybyshev.

The Soviet Union is all but out of the war, they still have the capabilities of making trouble for the occupying Germans, but nothing on the scale of OTL. To make matters worse the Big Three are setting themselves up for a Civil War after the Germans are expelled, each hoping to claim power for themselves. Hitler accepts a recommendation of creating a Russian puppet state with its capital in St Petersburg, in fact it flies the old black, orange, and white Imperial flag.

With Moscow in Nazi hands, the RAF bombs the oil fields in the Caucasus, outraging Hitler. The fuhrer demands Turkey let him through to get to Mesopotamia, when Turkey stalls, Hitler invades. Germany fights its way down to try to get to the oil fields in southern Iraq and in parts of British occupied Iran. He also invades the Levant trying to capture the Suez Canal, but gets bogged down fighting in the Sinai and Palestine.

To make a long story short, Nazi Germany is defeated when a nuclear bomb is detonated in Germany by an American bomber. The western allies win a harder fought war with little assistance from the Soviet Union until later in the war. I plan on having both the Soviet remnant beginning to become a power again, and the Russian Republic, Hitlers former puppet declaring war on Germany, hoping to gain favor from the allies.

Now Im curious if some of these things that develop in the post war are probable, so please help me out here.

The United Confederated Kingdom of Yugoslavia: The King retains his throne after the war, but each of "states" become Kingdoms in their own right, under the same monarch. Like in the British commonwealth, there is a "governor general" that represents the King. Each of these Kingdoms have their own legislative branches, and their own Chancellor. They are allowed to pursue their own domestic agenda, and have limited authority on their foreign policy, which is mostly dictated by the Yugoslav Grand Assembly, and the Prime Minister. As for the military, it is considered to be the Kings. The small standing army falls under his command, it can only be used for any extended period of time with his permission so to speak. Now each of the Kingdoms have their own National Guard which can be activated by either the King or the Governor General in times of emergency such as floods, blizzards, mudslides, etc.

The Russian Question: The allies can go one of two ways with this, they can throw their support behind the Soviet Union, which looks as if it is on the brink of Civil War, but also covers a larger area. It also looks to be falling apart with the Ukraine, Armenia, and other Republics declaring independence, especially allied occupied Western Ukraine.

Alternatively the allies can throw their weight behind the former Nazi collaborationist and support the Russian Republic, its not all that stable either, but its not communist, and is somewhat less divided internally. What ever happens, the Russian people are going to be in a horrible post war civil war. If the allies choose to support the loser, the winner is going to be bitter, if they choose to not get involved, there is still going to be some bitterness.

The neo Ottoman Empire, Sultanate of Turkey, Republic of Turkey I have a handful of options I can take with Turkey. I can restore the monarchy easily, and thus the Caliphate. I could also make the second Republic of Turkey, or have the monarchy restored as the Sultanate of Turkey rather than the new Ottoman Empire, or I could even have several new states rise on Anatolia as the divisions of war and how to reform the post war government become to large of obsticles to climb. An Ottoman Empire coexisting with the Republic of Turkey, and several other smaller nation states along Anatolia.

The return of the dynasty Either the Hapsburgs return to post-war rule of Austria or Hungary. I even considered both, with Austria being ruled by Otto and Hungary ruled by his brother (Karl, I believe). If the monarchy is restored to Hungary, I know it will be known as the Kingdom of Hungary, but if it is restored to Austria would it be called the Austrian Empire, the Kingdom of Austira, or what?

Two Ukraine's I was considering what the odds were that the Ukraine actually be recognized by either Russia or the USSR. In the scenario Ive thought of where the Soviet's win, eastern Ukraine remains Soviet, part of the Ukraine SSR, while the western Ukraine goes as an independent Republic, attempting to snuggle itself up to the western nations, mostly for protection against the USSR, or even the Russian Republic.

Can I have your thoughts and ideas on if any of these could work? What you like, dislike, so forth and so forth, etc, etc, etc?

I guess the Allies will have all hands full to do with Western Europe which they'd consider to be more important. If there's a man around in Russia who looks like he could restore order and implement a non-Communist government, they'll support him, but no more.

For a split Ukraine, this thread may be interesting for you.

Austria proper was an archduchy, but that didn't include Styria, Tyrol and so on. Maybe the Habsburgs finally decide to reform it and make it kingdom of Austria (for an empire, and with no kingdoms under him, it's too small). What about a restored Dual monarchy?

I can't really imagine a new sultanate...

Yugoslavia OK, though it looks a bit complicated.

OK the intention was to make Yugoslavia a little complicated, its part of the problem the country is going to have, overlapping "state" powers and "Federal" powers creates confusion and internal problems. This could make a problem for the future of the region!

As for Turkey Im beginning to lean towards creating several states in Anatolia, Kurdistan is an obvious, perhaps I can have the Turks so divided over what type of government that needs to rule after the war, and have it divided by regions. Something like the area around the straights supports the restoration of the Sultanate, while large portion of the south supports an Islamic style Republic, areas in the west are in favor of restoring the Ataturk Republic. Im sure the peninsula can be divided in several other areas, perhaps a Greco-Turkish nation of Pontus, if Im not mistaken the Pontic Greeks were mostly Muslim any ways. You can probably also get a communist state somewhere and a Islamic Fascist state somwhere else. Then there are also the Zaza's.
