No rugby

I'd guess most Americans should just ignore this thread:

WI the schools that objected to the FA's original rules did not go off to create rugby?
Maybe assume that though these other schools did not like the idea of football they couldn't reach a wide scale compromise with each other on the game of rugby.

What possible effect could this have on the state of the world (mainly sport of course)?
Football more popular in the southern British nations? New Zealanders play cricket?

IIRC American Football as we know it today came out of Rugby teams from princeton, harvard and some of the other prep schools out east, so it would affect the US and how sports are seen today.

in the US Baseball would have probably become more important and popular than today (unfortunatly IMHO) and Basketball would have also

Wink

I wouldn't of had a hangover on Sunday after watching the Waratah v Hurricane game.

Maybe Gaelic Football would take off in the States rather then the asSOCition (CAR) Football played by the damn Limeys.

Noooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got this theory that rugby made the players more sutable to become soldiers. Thus, the brittish had a great opertunety to form a Imperium. Then they taught their subjects rugby and the Imperium fell.

It also explains why the germans don't get a break in the wars.

Of course, I don't reaserch into it since it might destroy the theory.

It does make you very respectful of people in authority! I mean look at most rugby teams-big hulking 6 feet place, built like...well building of your choice. Most refs are small guys (in comparison) yet all these big rugby types do as he says and rarely argue-very unlike football.

So no rugby-and we all become a lot less respectful of authority

The army had to be used to put down a riot at Eton College and rugby was invented to stop that kind of thing. Without rugby, there would be more riots and revolutions. Few people remember the short-lived Republic of Middlesex, Surrey & Berkshire set up by an unholy coalition of rioting pupils from Eton and Harrow in 1841. It nevergot international recognition as the French couldn't pronounce "Berkshire" and was put down by Queen Victoria personally - she was the ultimate authority figure being (a) Queen and (b) a mother.

Also, rugby was invented to channel sexual energy. Just think what might have become of the Empire if it were populated by all these folk with greater aggression and increased sex drive.
