DBWI Poll: Hitler's career

If Hitler had not died in a traffic accident on December 24, 1920, what is the most likely career he would have had?

Hitler who? Peter Ottokar Hitler? That good striker of the Austria-Hungary national football team which made third place at the 1998 FIFA World Championship in Egypt?

I have no idea who you're talking about... so I just voted "becomes a mad dictator" because it seemed more interesting... Perhaps he takes over Austria around the time they restored the Hapsburgs OTL?

I found some info!

Gosh, it took me a long time and a lot of googling to find out who you are referring too: some more-or-less talented Austrian painter. Who are you going to make a poll about next? Some chicken farmer?

Anyway: this Hitler was born late in the 19th century, did some paintings in Vienna, draft dodged WW1 in Austria, only to fight (on the battlefield) and die (off the battlefield) for Germany. I have not been able to find any paintings of his, though, at least not cached.
I guess he'd go back to his painting role, although he might end up as a nameless thug within the communists - they had a lot of influence with disgruntled former soldiers, and from what little I have found about him, he was a rather talentless hack anyway (the Vienna art school did not accept him for some reason or the other, it was not specified).

From those poll options, there's not really any I could wholeheartly agree with. although he just might be disillusioned and shocked enough to start pondering and end up in his own art style, answering the Dadaists.

I take it the thread creator doesn't like his art with the 'he becomes a artist' options

Oh please. Sex SELLS.

If it wasn't him they would have just highlighted someone elses.. dubious exploits.

The question is, if Austria-Hungary were not such a good team on the nation stage, would seperatists have more popular support?

I think he'd probably just go back to being an artist, from what I remember reading, he was fairly ambitious...

In the only longer biography about him I could find I read that he admired the display of Catholic churches very much and wanted to become an abbot in his youth. So if he barely survives the accident, that could help him to find back. And who cares if he was incompetent in every job? As a monk, he only has to be poor (which he was anyway), abstain from sex (which he did too) and observe orders well (remember, he was a soldier). Seems like a suitable career.

I read that this Hitler fellow was, before his death, a member of the German Worker's Party, or DAP - you know, Ernst Rohm's band of goons that tried the Beer Hall Putsch in Munich in 1923? They were an odd mix of German nationalism, social redistribution, and other things like Anti-Semitism (I found an old piece of party literature that blamed the Jews for their role in Germany's defeat). So he probably continues in the party and gets jailed during the Putsch (assuming he isn't shot and killed). This might lead to a slightly stronger DAP, or it could be just another member who has his life washed down the drain.

I did Adolf Cardinal Hitller who almost became Pope once. Andrew Greeley claimed it was a shame he didn't make it because he thought Hitler would've allowed Catholics to practice artificial contraception.

Seriously?
Well, there goes my Commie theory out of the window. I'd have to agree with you that he'd be most likely shot after the Putsch. I mean, all the others were too, so why wouldn't he? Assuming, of course, that this membership wasn't simply a fad.
