Royal Navy preoccupied--no tanks?
Suppose the Royal Navy was too preoccupied with naval matters to spare any resources for developing the tank, and Churchil was out anyways. Perhaps Jutalnd, while still a Britiah victory, was seen as a close run thing.
POD: Jutalnd happens earlier. The Queen Elizabeth class is not with the battlecruisers, and the British BC's are decisively defeated. When the main fleets meet, Britian wins, but at a cost. Churchil is out, and the RN is busy with repairs and rebuilding. The RN does nothing with tanks. Wjat next? |

The Royal Army takes over research for tanks. As a result, tanks will arrive a few months later due to this delay. A few other possibilties include the French scraping their tank program, too, and the US Army fielding the first tanks in 1918; the Germans field the first tanks in 1917; and finally, the French redesign the NT-17 tank to be larger, and comes out a few months later.
