AHC: French Republic of Texas?

Make a situation where, due to decades of extensive French colonization, the Texans remain independent for some time from the US with a dominant French-speaking population.
POD can be as early as you wish.

I think the "extensive French colonization" out of nowhere part is the main obstacle. OTL there wasn't even in the "good spots" of continental French America : why should it happen in a marginal, badly controlled part of it?

Thande's potentially setting up a scenario where this could occur in Look to the West. There, he has a French colony survive in Lower Louisiana, and recieves a population boost from French Canadians who shared the same fate of the Acadians after British take over. They eventually expanded into Tejas.

It could lead to a future nation, if Louisiana breaks off, but I don't remember Thande even hinting at any politics desiring independence occurring any time soon.

How about the Jesuits coming to New Orleans and Texas for religious freedom? Could the increased influx of immigrants to the area help make it a more French-dominant area?

Since it's not my TL, you'd have to ask him.

Have you read Sicarius's "The Stars at Night?" It has a French Texas.

The Texans certainly don't. I think France would need a far more extensive settler colony in Louisiana for that to happen.
