Pol-Swe-Lit temporary file

1575 – Stephen Batory becomes king of Poland. He does not convert to Catholicism. (This is the main POD of TTL)
1576 – Royal marriage of Stephen Batory and the Jagiellonian. Coronation of Stephen Batory and Anna the Jagiellonian. Danzig refuses to accept him as a sovereign. Batory responses by erecting an economical blockade. (As in OTL)
1577 – Military solution to Danzig problem proves to be a failure (as in OTL). But negotiations are handled slightly more in favor of the king than in OTL, due to greater willingness of protestant merchants to pact with a protestant King.
1579 – Batory conquers Polatsk. (as in OTL)
1580 –Batory fails conquer Wielkie Luki. (Due to butterflies and the fact, that Batory’s army was composed mainly of Catholics, so it’s safe to assume that their morale would be slightly weaker.)
1582 – Livonian war ends in Jama Zapolski treaty slighty more in favor of Russia.
(circa 1583) – Warsaw Confederation documents are rewritten to include proper executive laws, so that tolerance of different religions is better enforced. (This didn’t happen in OTL, due to small protestant influence)
1586 – Batory dies
1587 – Sigismund III Vasa is elected and crowned king of Poland (Maximilian III Habsburg has no chances in TTL, any ideas for other candidate?)
1588 – There is no battle of Byczyna (or maybe there is some skirmish versus other candidate)
1589 – (i’ll complete it when I return to home)
1587 – Sigismund III Vasa is elected an coronated king of Poland. Poland and Sweden are in Personal Union. (Maximilian III Habsburg has no chances in TTL, any ideas for other candidate?)
1588 – There is no battle of Byczyna (or maybe there is some skirmish versus other candidate)
1593 – Synod of Uppsala is conducted. While it changes the official religion of Sweden to Protestantism, many of Warsaw Confederation rules are implemented as well. Work on Swedish translation of Bible begins.
(circa 1600) – Union of Brest concludes, basically the same as OTL
1605 – Dimitriads begin, however the main focus of those war are instaling a pro-Polish/pro-Swedish Tzar (as Sigismund abonds all hopes of succesfully managing three enterily different states at once) and securing the Baltic Coast. Contingents of Swedish Army are sent to aid the Poles and Lithuanians.
1616 – Signing of the Truce of Tver (OTL 2 years later Truce of Deulino) concludes the Polish-Swedish-Muscovite War. Tzar of Russia, Dimitr the False, loses Smolensk area and Russian Baltic Coast to Poland and Sweden. Aside from Danish Straits Dominum Maris Baltici is achieved by Polish-Swedish-Lithuanian Union.
(war with the Ottoman Empire is delayed)
(circa 1615-1630) – Sigismund works hard to streght the union between Poland-Sweden, exactly how and why he achieves that is open to discussion)
1618 – Thirty Years War starts (as in OTL). PSL decides not to honor its own laws regarding religious tolerance and get involved, unless some tempting opportunity occurs.
1619 – Goteborg is not refounded.
(circa 1615) – much of tariffs and taxes for Polish merchant in Swedish ports and Swedish merchants in Polish Ports are lifted. Intense trade between Poland and Sweden occurs. Polish-Swedish Union controls most important Europe-Russia trade route.
(circa 1620) – marriage between Polish magnate and influential Swedish noblesse.
(circa 1620) – emigration from Sweden to southern Polish territories begin. To prevent depopulation of Swedish territories act banning the emigration is passed. Protestant Polish nobles seek to overturn it, so that they can get new colonist/inhabitants/settlers for their lands in southern Poland and Lithuania. They fail and complain loudly about king being overly pro-Swedish during Sejm (this is of course an exagerration). What is important, is the fact that for the first time Swedish nobles-observers were invited to Polish Sejm.
(circa 1625) – copper Vasa-Gross coin is minted in Danzig and becomes widely used in both Poland-Lithuania and Sweden (copper coinage was introduced later in this OTL due to some Polish silver reserves. It was the second in large step in unifying PLS economy)
1632 – Death of Sigismund III Vasa. Wladislaus IV Vasa becomes King of Poland and King of Sweden and Grand Duke of Lithuania
(and now, there should come war with Russia, Ottoman Empire and tensions in Sweden itself and in Ukraine – times of trouble for the future commonwealth)
