That is the Empire of the Huns in the Mongolia color. The Huns originally come from the area of present day Mongolia.

What Quazaq said.
Colours can be used to indicate predecessor states or tribes that the colours later represent. Like, the French colour for the Franks, the Britain colour for the Saxons, etc.

Because they aren't a clearly-defined state or polity, unlike the later Kingdom of England, or Mongol Empire.
Even the Hunnic Empire was really just a confederation of tribes allied under a single leader. It never really had a centralized political foundation like you would find in a true multiethnic empire.

It's the Dutch colour. It was used for Aragon in the 1400 map too.

Interesting choice.
I always tried to use the Sardinia colour, because the Kingdom of Sardinia was part of the Crown of Aragon.

I just realised something: We show barbarian tribes in Germany without borders, but we show NA tribes with borders. Why?

Becaus eon the original maps that Thande made from his atlas they were shown as full nations. Which seems....odd to me.

See my quote above.

It's because they counted daft things like "Groups of Hunter-Gatherers" as 'states', which would be just blank areas in Eurasia, but it's so America wasn't a big blank space for thousands of years Although they seemed to have no such qualms about doing the same to Australia...

Well then we should either erase those borders or take them off completely. Peop,e should be confused about a huge empire east of the Mississippi

What is that huge empire east of the Mississippi, anyway?

K-T,
Not a problem, man, you are welcome.
Euio,
That 'empire' east of the Mississippi, is the Eastern Woodland Culture, the Coles Creek Culture(lower Mississippi Valley), and the Weeden Island Culture(South GA/North FL). Q

Instead of deleting the Indian cultures, why not just also add Australasian aboriginal cultures to the maps as well, if that's your qualm?

By chance, does anyone have a map of Europe in the year 1900, showing the various States and such of countries? (Similar to the one Euratlas has)
