I think Sander's way is probably better, as the outlined colour is sometimes difficult to see (esp. if it's a pale colour like sky blue or yellow).

Lord Sander,
Good, but with the CSA's current shading, Vichy France and Finland are apparently slave states. Now THERE'S a POD for you!

EDIT: And are Belgium and Mughal the same colour?!?

I never bothered with a colour for the CSA because it's only transiently there in OTL, like Taiping China.

Lord Sander,
Hmmm. I like that. I support it's adoption as the official OTL map key.

Sander:

According to your 1861 map Kentucky is nominally part of the US, but in actuality an independent nation?

Also, nice maps. Man, the world sucks in 2007... It's so devoid of color!

Well, at that time, we kinda were. We were a border state, legally part of the union, but not antagonistic towards the CSA. In effect, we were a neutral state that was functionally autonomous.

I've taken the 1861 Map and Showed the State of all the Border States and the CS Arizona Territory.

The problem with the ACW is that there are a number of peculiarities when treating the CSA as an independent nation. Kentucky is one of those. The Indian Territory especially is a bit of a headache. It'd probably be easier to put the CSA on the map as just a rebellion, like Taiping.
Anyway, no disrespect meant to rowmaster's work, but I'd already mapped out the states in the ACW. Red are slave/border states and claimed/temporarily held CSA territory.
