Alternate First President Of USA

Assuming that By a "Stroke of Fate",George Washington, after the Victory against the British Empire on the Revolution,DIED by unknown causes.

Who will be the replacement of him?

I wrote a little timeline where the revolution is won earlier (and started earlier) And the first president was in fact Ben Franklin. He was however succeeded by G. Washington. And the presidency of Franklin was uneventful save for Native-American Treaty, which for all intents and purposes doubled the American population as it expanded west.

John Hancock seems likely, I think he said something like he would run if Washington wasn't interested. Though his health may be a concern.

Hamilton was born in the west indies. He couldn't become president.

No, he indeed could have become president. George Washington wasn't born in the state of Virginia, he was born in the British Colony of Virginia as a British citizen. John Adams was born in the Province of Massachusetts Bay as a British citizen. No one was born as an "American" at that time, but rather they lived in America and became Americans when the country was founded. It's in the Constitution: to become president either you need to be a native born citizen or need to have been born before America was founded and a citizen when it was founded.

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

Charles Lee?

Benedict Arnold? Honestly he gets looked at as being much worse than he actually was (at least compared to his compatriots)

I'd say it would have to be a revolutionary general of some sort, to keep the military in line. There was a distinct chance of military coup at certain points, so having a man the army would be loyal to would be a good plus.

Daniel Morgan? Not as prominent as Washington, of course, but he was certainly well respected in the army and ... well, he's pretty damned colorful :)

Had Washington died after ratification but before the election could Franklin have become President, If so might the Presidency have developed into a more symbolic post and the House have become more powerful

Would there even be a President as we know it?

When the Convention was writing the part about the Executive, it did so with a clear awareness of who would hold it. Without Washington, do they go for a plural executive, perhaps with one man elected by the Senate, one by the House and one by the States, or keep a one-man executive but with much more limited powers, with the Senate choosing judges, Cabinet officers etc? Perhaps the President of the Senate gets the ceremonial functions like receiving foreign ambassadors etc but has no veto on legislation.
