Casting Call: Red Storm Rising

Suppose one day it was announced that Red Storm Rising would be made into either a movie or TV series, who would you suggest to be chosen to play the characters penned by Tom Clancy and Larry Bond?

For the purpose of this discussion let's assume the script followed the book 100%.

I'll start off:

Major Amelia "Buns" Nakamura, USAF - Grace Park [1]
General Eugene S. Robinson, USA - Stephen Lang
Captain Ivan M. Sergetov, SA - Anton Yelchin
Commander Edward Morris, USN - Sam Worthington

[1] It's either her or Jamie Chung.

I'd say Jamie Chung for Nakamura, if only to avoid Grace Park being typecast as the "hotshot pilot." Though really both women are too attractive to be playing the character; her book description is "short and unattractive" Also, Robinson is supposed to be black :0

I can't think of anything useful to contribute, but I keep mentally laughing at the thought of Michael Cera as Edwards the nice guy meteorologist

Hmmmmmm... well, whoever produces this show will need a looker for that role, so I'll say Jamie Chung for now.

I wonder how such a movie would do?

Most of the younger generation wouldn't really get it. The USSR has been long dead and the extensional horror of nuclear warfare doesn't really ring true. So the great Damocles sword hanging over the entire film would be lost.

I'd throw Clancy a bone and let him play the author expy Bob Toland.

But we'll get tank battle (at Bieben), AEGIS cruisers vs. sea skimmers (First Battle of Iceland), air force action (over Alfeld). A lot of explosions, basically.

And, of course, some nudity if you feel like. I think there was one scene with Edwards fondling Vigdis' boobs in full view of a Russian chopper.

I guess with that logic then all films about WWII after the baby boomers generation must have been flops because the audience didn't understand the concept of a world war.

Yeah, I think the setting of the movie/TV series won't really matter if you have a good plot, good actors, and good execution.
