AHC: "Ba'athist" Iran

With Iran having an alternate fate in my ST TL (Communist in this case), I was thinking "WI: Iran had a Ba'athist-style government instead of the Shia-islamist it has IOTL".

Presumably, it would need for the modernist tendancies of the last Shah to either be significantly reduced or butterflied away entirely.

Any thoughts?

.....well Ba'ath is a pan-Arab idea and Iranians aren't Arabs... I mean maybe some how you get a Arab Minority Government in Iran (like the Sunni Minority in Iraq or the Alawite minority in Syria) but that seems very unlikely

That's why I put it in inverted commas. :p

Tudeh manages to launch a coup, and becomes a Soviet backed socialist client state.

EDIT: I had just remembered that there was a Nationalist Party that had peaked in the Abadan Crisis, perhaps this is along the lines you're looking for.

Ok, that sounds about right. Thanks.

Ba'athism is a pan-Arab racialist ideology strongly influenced by Fascism and Nazism. Thus a Ba'athist regime in Iran is as impossible as, say, an Islamic shari'ah regime in India.

Why? Ba'athism, like Fascism, was a modernist ideology.

Actually, one could have a Ba'ath-like regime in Iran, based on Iranian ethnic chauvinism, militarism, and an authoritarian state headed by the Shah (or some other Shah).
