With a PoD after 1700, is there any way to make the U.S.A. form as a Catholic, Muslim, Orthodox, Pagan, Hindu, or anything else state? Bonus if the Revolution goes off similarly to the OTL one and or the change happens after the revolution.

By the way, what do you mean by "form as a (religions) state"? A state religion or just a majority that's non-Protestant? And how can I get the bonus point for having the change after the revolution if it has to form as this state - some huge shift in the Articles of Confederation years?

Majority and cultural association if possible (you think Mexico you think Catholic, Turkey Sunni Muslim, ect). As for form as, I'll consider the U.S.'s formation to be between the Revolution and the war of 1812. Whatever religion should be in charge by then, but a good answer with a later date is always welcome.

Now that would be interesting. France already was about 60% responsible for U.S. victory in the revolution. Them becoming a major cultural and religious contributor to the fledgling U.S. actually seems pretty possible and cool.

On a slightly different note, does anyone think that the Russians could have made the west coast states majority Orthodox in a similar timeframe?

Russian missionaries had some success with the Aleut peoples, the only problem was that Russia was stretched to the limit already. But I mean hey, Russians got to California, so maybe I'm not giving them much credit.

I poundered on one possible factor for a Catholic majority at least USA - 'reverse Hugenots'. What if by example a protestant power like Prussia and allies, or the British Crown, got crazy religious fanatical on catholics (and probably some 'radical' protestants), a lutherian, calvinist or anglican theocratic bent dictator (a worse Cromwell, by example), kicking them out, to France and possible the american colonies...
