Early 20th Century AH(C) Questions

These questions are individual. Not corresponding to each-other unless otherwise noted. Some may be considered challenges. The PoD could be as early as 1848, if necessary, though I ask you stay as close to the date of the event in question as possible.

  1. Up until the Russian Revolutions, what areas of the United States, if any, had the potential, ignoring Federal suppression, to go Communist/Socialist; if the population of these areas so-wanted?
  2. How would Italy's economy develop if it stayed neutral in WWI?
  3. If Russia collapsed before WWI, due to whatever reason, could any other country be directly involved?
  4. Is it possible for Germany to fight France; more or less one on one?
  5. Without American intervention and the usage of the Roosevelt Corollary, what could Britain and Germany possibly want/gain from Venezuela besides monetary concessions?
More questions may come as a result of any comments posted in this thread or if I, for some reason, think of any other questions to ask.

Thanks,

Zach

RE - Question 3, in the event of a russian break up pre WW1 then the UK is likely to attempt to influence the central asian countries and regain dominance of Afghan politics.

WWI crippled Italy - it cost the government 148 billion lire, twice the entire amount of money spent since the Risorgimento. To alleviate the debt they printed money and the cost of living shot up, leading to revolutionary agitation that prompted the ruling classes to turn to Mussolini.

So, staying out leaves Italy with a stronger postwar economy (especially as it hasn't undergone the infrastructure and manpower damage the rest of Europe has) and no fascism.

So the Great Game played between an active player and in inactive player? That makes sense to me.

Well that much is obvious. However, I can't comprehend much past that much without somebody explaining it to me.

Thanks, both, by the way.

1. The potential might have been there in some areas, but the Communists simply weren't organized or large enough to do it. You need to change that first before you even thing about America going Commie.

2. Better in everything, really. But that was already explained far better than I can..

3. Of course, other nations will realize this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to deal Russia a heavy blow.

4. Germany will win, as it has more men, and is generally just better in everything.

5. Nothing, IMO, although I'm not sure. Maybe influence, but the Europeans probably had accepted the Americas were unreachable.
