Retrospective Canadian Federal Election: 1984
I'll be running through the Canadian federal elections, 2 per week.
Liberal: Pierre Trudeau announced his retirement on February 29 and was succeeded by former Finance Minister John Turner on June 30. The new PM immediately dissolved Parliament for a September 4 election. Government is highly unpopular due to Trudeau's National Energy Program, a raft of Trudeau-mandated patronage appointments, and Quebec's lingering anger over 1982's Constitution. PC: Brian Mulroney unseated Joe Clark in February 1983 and is running on two slogans: Time for a change and "jobs, jobs, jobs!" Famously said "You had an option, sir!" on patronage appointments- widely thought the campaign's knockout blow. NDP: Ed Broadbent thinks the Liberal collapse might allow the NDP to grab Official Opposition status for the first time in its history.

Voted Liberal, as I do every election. I have no idea why...

I voted for C.E. Low cause his name was funny.

Hmm... looks like we're evolving into a PC-NDP 2-party system ITTL. Just much earlier than OTL.
