WI: Star Trek pulled a Doctor Who

Shatner and Kelly leave at the end of the fifth season (Shatner has turned his image around and now has prospects as the fourth and fifth season actually improved in ratings). Spock is promoted to Captain of the Enterprise and a young Andorian is brought aboard the sixth season as his new second in command (same one shown in Yesteryear live action version). Chapel has earned her MD and is promoted to ship's doctor (we are hitting the Feminist era). Need a great young actor to play the Andorian second in command. Spock remains Captain for the sixth and seventh season. At the start of the 1973-4 eighth season Savalas takes the captaincy. At some point I want Jaclyn Smith to join the cast as an Orion.

The Andorian makeup cost already makes that a no no. If it were an Andorian and not Spock, maybe. But I think you either get one alien or another, and not both.

What you see with Doctor WHo is that there are a lot of cameos of well known people, maybe something like that could happen too in this Star Trek (i know it did on a limited scale otl, but i meant even more).

It could very well happen. Pre-Nerd era (after it was canceled and when the people most associated with keeping it active were the people not just watching and enjoying it, but watching and enjoying and then learning Kirk's serial number and going to conventions 24/7 dressed up like Mr Spock and believing they were Mr Spock), Star Trek was considered a hip and smart show, and liked by many hip people. I think Hendrix, for example, was a fan.
