AHC: US Civil War in mid/late 1840s

The challenge is basically what it says in the title. After reading about former president J. Q. Adams' view on slavery, the annexiation of Texas and the Mexican War I wonder how it could be achieved that the northern states secede from the USA because of these events? Also: How much territory could the North claim and control? And what might it call itself?

The POD must be no earlier than 1822 (when the Old Three Hundred under Austin arrived in Texas).

Andrew Jackson commands the army that forces the North back into the union.

If we had a POD which was that the Missouri Compromise failed (as it nearly did anyway, this is not far from OTL).

The north and south now face off, presumably with Jackson taking control of the southern armies and Monroe still commanding the support of the northern national guard.

I can see John Quincy Adams being sent to Britain for support (since Britiain was in the first flush of anti-slavery there would have been much support from the public to support this) as the north seems to be at a disadvantage at least at the outset.

The south would have to win, and quickly as it faces the same problems that it did 40 years later i.e. a lack of manufactoring and a lack of war materials except men.

By the late 1840's (died June 8 1845) he was retired and near death, the guy was never healthy to begin with and only got worse after being president.

I... had a "brain fart" to some extent. The POD should be some time after 1822, not before that. So besides the Missouri Compromise are there any other ways?
