Alternate US House apportionment tools

After pondering whether or not to write a program myself to do this function, and then answering with a resounding "fuck no", I quite happily found some tools on the Internet that should help with people writing American political history timelines.

It's something that, unfortunately, we don't touch on a lot, even though shifting demographics or shifting sizes of the House of Representatives can have major political consequences. The method for calculating how many seats each state gets in the US House is quite arcane. Thankfully, there are some online applets that help.

This one from the University of Michigan is pretty basic, but easy to use. Just follow the instructions.

This one is more generic, and can be used for just about any apportionment calculation method and situation. It's also a bit more complicated, so make sure you understand the instructions before you play with it. It's also a Java applet, so make sure you have an up-to-date install of Java.
