American gunpowder plot
Supposedly a group of American economic royalists led by the DuPonts tried
to hire exMarine General Smedley Butler to lead a coup against FDR (1934-35). All very murkey. Now presume they found a general with some real charisma who said yes - 50,000 unemployed vets, labor goons and patriotic citizens with 'privately donated' machine guns attack the capital. 1. Do they win? 2. Do they accomplish anything besides a few thousand dead? Do either of the above change if they get lucky and kill FDR leaving VP John Nance Garner (ex speaker of the House - a reactionary and by this time an embittered drunk) as President? Would it change again if you had a proud populist like Truman in charge? If they do win do we get an american "Reich" and American "Fuehrer"? |
