Help

I need the assistance of someone, preferably someone who knows a bit of Mesoamerica. What would the Aztecs (Mexica) call Hernan Cortes? And if it isn't too much, what the Maya referred to him as?

I certainly know very little about Mesoamerican history, but I found something in Wikipedia:

Quote:
After leaving Cozumel, Cortés continued round the tip of the Yucatán Peninsula and landed at Potonchan, where there was little gold. However, Cortés discovered a far more valuable asset in the form of a woman whom Cortés called Doña Marina. She is often known as Malinche and also sometimes called "Malintzin" or Mallinali. Later, the Aztecs would come to call Cortés "Malintzin" by dint of his close association with her.
On a related note, have you PMed 9 Fanged Hummingbird? He might be able to help...

I have no idea what they actually called him, but if you phonetically transliterated his name into Yucatec, Cortez would possibly end up as something like "Coh Tez", or even "Coh Tiis", "Puma Amaranth" and "Puma Fart" respectively. The second one would make sense as a derisive nickname. Not only is fart just silly, it carries more negative connotations in Mesoamerican culture. I've even heard that an Aztec swearword was their word for fart, though I can't be sure.

You could tell me. This would be somewhat helpful. And thank you on the Maya side.
