yeah! although it's tough to see it being made in any other time since the idea was kind of a middle aged baby boomer movie...that said Andy Warhol as Mr Lebowski and Frank Zappa as the dude was epic win!

Most felt plausible -- except I really didn't get Leonard Nimoy in Die Hard.

(Oh, and loved seeing John Wayne's role in Avatar...)

I wanna add my own. Back To The Future (1955) Marty McFly is accidently sent thirty years in the past in a time traveling thunderbird after Doc Brown is shot by KGB agents. In 1925 he accidently prevents his parents from meeting and must get them together before it's too late!

Starring:

Paul Newman as Marty McFly
Alec Guinness as Doc
Jerry Lewis as George McFly
Marlon Brando as Biff Tannen
Audrey Hepburn as Lorraine Baines McFly
Ronald Reagen as Mr Strictland
Natalie Wood as Jennifer Parker

Newman? Guiness? Brando? You sure you want this to be an Academy Picture?

I like Clint Eastwood better for Marty myself, and maybe Peter Sellers for Doc Brown (though admittedly, he'd be younger). And whoever does Biff has, at heart, to be a comedic actor...

At least some of the humor might be gone. 1925 was a more liberal time than 1955 in many respects, and General Eisenhower is less of a comedic target than "Ronald Reagan? The actor?" The tech would be a bit of a problem, too--nothing in 1955 was really miniaturized. I suppose maybe Marty brings back a tape recording of Doc describing the time machine, which takes the role of the video camera. Or maybe it was an old-fashioned film camera that Doc used in 1955.

Also, I figure Avater-1955 would involve The Duke's triumph over the blue savages.

In 1925, Major Eisenhower was attending the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. So he's an unknown and the comparison doesn't add up. There aren't really any good alternatives:
* 1975: 1945 Gerald Ford is merely a former college football player and Navy officer
* 1965: 1935 Lyndon Johnson is head of the Texas National Youth Administration and a former congressional aide
* 1945: 1915 Harry S. Truman is a farmer and former clerk in Grandview, Missouri
* 1935: 1905 Franklin D. Roosevelt is a newlywed and a student at Columbia Law School. A joke about "another Roosevelt!" or "President Roosevelt's still in office!" might suffice though.
* 1925: 1895 Calvin Coolidge is a law apprentice in Northampton, Massachusetts
* 1915: 1885(!) Woodrow Wilson is a newlywed and a student at John Hopkins University
* 1905: 1875 Theodore Roosevelt is a seventeen-year-old homeschooled elitist
* 1895: 1865 Grover Cleveland is a candidate for District Attorney in Erie County, New York
* (1995: 1965 Bill Clinton is a student at Georgetown University)
* (2005: 1975 George W. Bush is a student at Harvard Business School)

I don't know. The "noble savage" thing was still kinda big in 1955. I see The Duke convincing all the blue savages to join with him and become loyal Americans.

Perhaps a scene where Marty bumps into one of them while running around and has a humorous exchange where he convinces them to run for President? Similar to that scene in the ice cream shop where he convinces that black guy to run for mayor at some point in the future?

Maybe a Back To The Future set in 2015 has Marty traveling back to 1985 and mentioning that the President is a black guy named Obama, that would work even though Obama was an unknown recent college graduate at the time who had just moved to Chicago.

He could bump into Obama somewhere and do a double-take.
