Vargas is the Spanish...err Iberian Napoleon. Iberia has ringed Europe with Satellites and is fighting analogous battles all over *obviously*. Spain was historically very weak at this time and in no position to do this. So I simply switched this around so Iberia has its own "Co-Prosperity Sphere", Analagous to France's Continental System.

If they went through with theat many mega-projects, I'd expect the Caspian to be connected with the Black Sea and the Aral connected with the Caspian to keep it from shrinking.

Wouldn't the Congo be filled up if this is Atlantropa?

I haven't gotten to the greater Atlantropa yet (plus the timeline this is for considers the USSR a nuclear wasteland, because it is).

Did you miss the "Actual African Information" bit? It would be easier to pull of a Sealion than connect the Congo region to the Medd, and would be up hill the whole way so you couldn't possibly get the water up there.

Here's the political situation (so far). Italy stayed neutral in WWII. There was a nuclear war in the early sixties. It is now 2012, tech is mostly ~1970.

Will there be a Bhutanese Imperium?

Maybe. India didn't get that badly nuked so the balance of power there isn't too strange.

Hm. One would think that if anyone would do a "From Hell's Heart I Stab at Thee" attack on Italy out of sheer meaness, it would be the Nazis...and what of fallout? Crop failures? I would think Italy would have trouble keeping it's shit together for a decade or so, and afterward (when did the war happen? 60's? 70's?) doing all this conquering by only 2012 - I'd redo it as an Italian/Spanish/Turkish alliance kinda thingy, with less wanking in Africa, or put it further in the future...

And how the hell did any Gibraltar dam avoid a nuke during the war? It's an even more obvious target than Aswan.

No sleep + Epic Music + EU3* + myself apparently equals an badly-drawn post-apocalyptic world in which The English Empire ends up colonizing a large area of France and Iberia. Feel free to make up your own backstory for this tiny, hurried, pixally mapy-thingy.

Why on earth would Italy decide to launch a project that completely destroys their entire coastal economy, requires millions to recreate any sort of naval infrastructure and environmentally batters the interior in exchange for several million acres of salt baked, infertile sand?

Ummm...HELLO? Because it looks good from space, that's why. . In all seriousness, I don't know much about Atlantropa, but I do think that something like it would probably be the creation of a Greater German Reich that doesn't really care about the implications on Italy. However, if the rest of Europe is in worse condition than the reclaimed land, it could be a good idea.

Well I guess I didn't go into the details that the Fascists in Spain and semi-fascists in Portugal hopped on board too. And crop failures and fallout continue to be an issue for most of the world, the Fascists aren't exactly a success story either, they can't even conquer the Swiss. The only got Egypt because it's main cities were hit in the nuclear war.

The Atlantropa was made post-war by the slightly crazed Fascists who wanted new lands to settle the Northern European refugees on, as well as more farmland with crops being unreliable

Some blame radiation poisoning, but more seriously it was a poorly though out plan to move their agricultural base to the less irradiated north Africa and mediterranean basin. It has been far from a success story, and winters of late have been getting suspiciously cold, after getting rather warm for a while. If the Fascists bothered to explore the irradiated north much they would have noted that the gulf stream got messed up by their little plan, but non-applied sciences don't get much funding.

Well, that's one way to conquer Switzerland, I guess--start an ice age and let the glaciers do your work for you...

That risks the Swiss invading instead though!
