Yes, though it was as impressive as say a country Germany's size doing so; Equatorial Guinea at the time only had about 500,000 people and the government claimed it was actually a little over 1 million, and given the general high population growth rates of Africa* and the country having a good growth rate itself you can see how they could claim it without everyone just staring at them like they were insane.



*For example, the population of Ethiopia in 2000 65.5 million while the present population is 84.3 million, an increase of almost 19 million people in a little over a decade.

Oregon is like Washington, except after the Urban Western half of the state got settled in the same manner they never go around to settling the Eastern half of it.

I'm a little more skeptical; the healthcare industry is huge here and an attempt to work towards single payer was just defeated in the General Court. Plus, the current system seems to work decently well, so if it isn't all that broke there might not be a huge impetus to fix it.
