A Very Screwed Up World
Here is a Western Hemisphere where North America fractured and Latin America stayed or was forced into unifacation. Enjoy, still working on a POD and back story, but dont worry, its coming soon.

I shall take this oppertunity to worry and encourage you not to waste any time trying to rationalise your map. No good will come of it.

The Mediterranean, 1505.
Aragon's 1441 war and 1445 victory over Castille led to it and Lusitania splitting the Iberian peninsula. A series of military victories for the Kingdom of Aragon followed, unifying the northwest coast of Africa and the southern half of Italy. However, their victories have left them thinly stretched, with Ottoman sponsored revolts in North Africa and HRE-sponsored revolts in the Basque lands. Venice, Savoy, and Florence started the Union of Lodi, quickly drawing in the other major northern Italian powers in united opposition to Aragonese aggression. Their recent victory against the Ottomans in the Italian Crusade (1489-1495) left them with near total control of Greece in the forms of the Kingdom of Athens and the Kingdom of Salonika, unstable powers if the Latins lose... The Second Latin Empire, propped up by Aragonese gold and guns, is yet a decade old, formed in the wake of the Italian Crusade by some oppurtunistic Aragonese nobles exploiting the weakness of the Ottomans. Now, having lost multiple battles against a superior foe, it mighn't see double-digits. Egypt has revolted and won its independence from the Ottomans, but the Pharonic throne has lost control of most of the country, with Coptic, Legitimist (pro-Ottoman), and Orthodox armies burning Egypt to the ground. The Ottomans haven't taken their recent losses badly. Merely seeing them as wake-up calls for military reform, their army has become one of the most modern in existence at this point, and their navy rivals Lodi's in terms of both size and quality. The smart money's on Constantinople moving under the House of Osman in the next few years, with Cairo being next. Also, far away, a Lusitanian-Italian expedition has found some rather nice islands, and the flag of Lodi has been raised over the New World...

I'd say before you do anything, Numb, actually do something about those borders. That's the only constructive criticism I can offer.

Pick your POD first. THEN decide how you want things to progress. Knowing WHEN things started to change allows you to build your borders based on the timeframe, not modern OTL.

Anyway, my maps are fucking magnificent compared to Numbs, and I dare anyone to say I'm on his level! |

The map is certainly of questionable quality, but I hardly think Numb is trying to deliberately antagonize people with it. Calm down.

I don`t see how a Union of Northern Italy + Spain would be able to crush the Ottoman Empire in it`s heyday.
Your facts are messed up. The Ottomans did`nt control Egypt till they crushed the Mamelukes in 1516-1517.

I suppose there could be some form of devastating civil war to result in the complete loss of the Balkan territories. However, interestingly enough, the Balkans as a whole tended to be much quieter than Anatolia through this time period. If there was some form of civil unrest serious enough to shake off all the Balkans, you can bet your firstborn that quite a few Anatolian provinces are going to go with them.

Numb's maps may not be of the highest caliber, but it would be a better idea to point out the mistakes he has made - gently - or ignore the maps altogether.

I often wonder how people can spend any amount of time on this thread and not realise that you can't just colour in the spaces and call it alternate history?

Here's a map to go along with a few ideas that I thought would be cool. Yeah, I know it's relatively ASB, but not entirely beyond the realm of possible, I would argue. So anyway, behold:
Ultra Portugese Empire Wank Ultra Chinese Empire Wank Ultra Habsburg German Empire Wank Moderate Argentina Wank Moderate Spain Wank Relatively Large Hungary Wank ----also---- Severe Japan Screw (they are part of the Portugese dominions) minor Brit Screw (less Africa, less India, less S. E. Asia) |

it's rather awkward to see Black borders in the middle of a nation, while the internal division borders are all around it. Other than that, I'm want to see the back story before I say more.

My first maps weren't as bad as some of the ones I've seen people post after literally months of constructive criticism. I payed attention and worked out the basics, why others struggle to grasp them is beyond me. And yes I realise what a hypocrite I am right now, nobody needs to point it out. |
